18.01.2022 Today we are wearing our hearts on our tees for our much-loved and respected leader, Dale West. DPW will retire in January after 32 years at the helm of Centacare. Every day since the onset of COVID-19, Dale has sent an email update to all staff, signed with a hashtag joke. His trademark missives and other musings have been a unique and reassuring comfort. We will miss you, #DPW!

17.01.2022 ANIMAL WELLBEING PROGRAM: Liz Sparks and her crew of critters visited Alban Place this week. A highlight for clients and staff, the visit provided the chance for young people to interact with the animals close up, fostering a sense of pride and confidence. Clients in residence at Alban Place participate for 6 to 8 weeks in a residential rehabilitation program that focuses on creating lifestyle changes to address substance use issues. #Centacare

13.01.2022 It’s been an interesting week for all of us, but spare a thought for essential workers who continue to provide community and other services while we retreat to the familiarity of home. To the Centacare teams who have been on frontlines across the state this week, thank you for your commitment, skill, dedication, resilience, and unwavering care of our clients. Jess Sibley is a Family Support Worker and splits her time across Coolock House and Louise Place. The services provid...e 24-hour accommodation and support to young women who are pregnant or parenting. ``Working on the frontline during this time is challenging as we need to think of new ways to be able to engage and build rapport with the client, while also supporting to them feel safe and secure during these uncertain times,’’ Jess says. ``Often, we are looked upon for answers and support when we struggle ourselves to understand the complexities that surrounds us as workers and individuals.’’ #thankyou #Centacare #COVID19 #SouthAustralia #essentialservices

04.01.2022 VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN: In 2019-2020, Centacare’s specialist Domestic Violence & Homelessness Services supported 1113 clients including 691 women and 412 children. But the numbers don't stop there. The scourge of domestic violence is felt by almost every Centacare service, in some capacity, across our 34 sites in regional and metropolitan South Australia. Many of the more than 20,000 female clients we support each year will disclose some form of domestic, family or sexual vio...lence. This Wednesday, November 25, we will mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women to highlight the need for funding, essential services, prevention and data to shape better-informed responses to those at risk. This year’s theme is Orange the World: Fund, Respond, Prevent, Collect! As in previous years, the IDEVAW will launch #16days of activism that will conclude on December 10, which is International Human Rights Day. #GenerationEquality #orangetheworld #16days UN Women UN Women Australia
