20.01.2022 Despite the change in date and the challenges faced in 2020, NAIDOC Week has again bought us together to celebrate the histories, cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Our staff enjoyed fresh morning tea with a variety of damper's entered into our Damper cook-off in lieu of being able to attend the Townsville NAIDOC March. This year’s theme: Always Was, Always Will Be recognises that First Nations peoples have occupied and cared for this... continent for over 65,000 years. It’s a great opportunity to remind ourselves that we’re living and working on land that will always be traditional owned by the First Nations peoples. #NAIDOC2020 #alwayswasalwayswillbe

18.01.2022 Camooweal held their NAIDOC Elders luncheon where elders were treated with a memorable meal by Myuma Pty Ltd. The event was opened with an Acknowledgement to Country by Cassie Tuahine on behalf of Indjalandji-Dhidhanu people, followed with a blessing conducted by Thelma Anderson and the cutting of the NAIDOC Cake completed by Barry Wickham (Elder). The elders were joined by Dignitaries Sgt Andy and Mel Queensland Police Service, Stewart Williams Rainbow Gateway Ltd, Nancy Odi...megwu Centacare NQ Coordinator. Camooweal Elders were also joined by Camooweal State School students to share their activities and stories of what NAIDOC meant to them. Students presented them with two books and also read some of the pages to the Elders. Thank you Camooweal State School. Each elder received a small gift bag as well as lucky door prizes. Congratulations to these winners and thank you to JCU: James Cook University, Australia for their kind donations of door prizes. (USB’s were a hit). Thank you to our special dignitaries that attend the event and also those who made the event possible Centacare NQ, Rainbow Gateway, Myuma Pty Ltd, Queensland Police Service, James Cook University and DATSIP.
