23.01.2022 It is not just about nail guns and wood varnish at the Centenary Suburbs Men’s Shed, there is art there too. The building of an arts studio completes the final phase of a construction plan that began in 2015, which offers men of all ages from the Centenary Suburbs and surrounding areas of South West Brisbane, a place to meet and become involved in numerous activities. There are currently several shed members who are competent artists, prepared to pass on their skills to those... with a desire to dabble with the paints. At this point in time, acrylic paint will be used by the artists, and it is intended to have guest speakers specialising in the art of painting on canvas to lecture on a regular basis and pass on their knowledge. If you would like to know more about how to get involved, please feel free to contact us at [email protected]

11.01.2022 One of the most important additions to the men's shed has been an industrial dust extractor which has been high on the list of must do for our committee since our opening in 2017. It was a high cost item and was always put on the 'too hard' list. However, earlier this year, a funding grant from BCC allowed the committee to proceed with the purchase and installation of a new dust extraction system! It's all systems go in the wood working areas; all the major work benches inst...alled with saws and sanding machines have been connected to the extractor which provides much safer working conditions for the members. 1: Shed member Allan Commerford sanding a photo box. 2: Cr Sarah Hutton with Linsay Driver, left and Jon Churven working on a sanding machine which is connected to the dust extraction system.

04.01.2022 The Centenary Suburbs Men's Shed has started an Electronics Group that meets at our shed from 6 - 8pm on Monday nights. Run by Electronics Engineer Garth Niethe and supported by software developer Jamie Clayton, participants can learn about how electronic circuits work and how to program them using a Raspberry Pi. Cost for the night is $5.00 and if you need any further details, contact Trevor Johnsson at [email protected].
