25.01.2022 So the fires are out, really, not all are! Yesterday I took the scenic route home from Cobargo via Dignams Creek and came across this spotted gum stump smoulder...ing away on the Wild Horse Creek Rd, about 3kms from home. Its nearly 3 months since the fires went through here. Id say the tree about a metre in diameter at the base has been burn internally and finally its fallen over. Dont let your guard down. It was great to see everyone in a casual environment enjoying each others company. Big thanks to John Mcmahon for organising this event! Big thank you to everyone that attended.

17.01.2022 The Bush Fire Danger Period is now over. This means permits are not required to burn. This doesnt mean you can just light up! There are a few things you have to do first. 1, You must call the Fire Control Center at least 24 hours before you intend to light up. This is during business hours only. ... 2, You must notify your neighbors at least 24 hours before you intend to light up. 3, You should ensure the weather conditions throughout the burn period will be favorable. 4, Once the burn is completed the burn should be fully extinguished with water. Have a look at this link showing the Standards for Pile Burning. https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au//13323/Standards-for-Pile-Burni

14.01.2022 Today marks 40 years since five young lives were tragically lost battling a bush fire at Waterfall. It was 3rd November 1980 - just before 5am crews were aler...ted to a bush fire burning near McKell Avenue. Numerous brigades responded to the southern end of the Royal National Park, working to contain a large fire which was burning under mild conditions. The conditions on the day were cool, the temperature reached 19c, humidity was low and southerly winds prevailed. As the southerly winds increased in strength late afternoon, the fire transitioned from the forested area into heath, increasing the intensity and spread. The fire rapidly headed in a northerly direction towards the Uloola trail. It was on this trail where a fire tanker from Headquarters (Heathcote) Brigade was overrun by fire. It was at this location where five brave firefighters were lost - Steve Crunkhorn, 26, Gregory Rolfe, 24, Vernon Stedman, 21, William Cummings, 21 and David Marshall, 19. The fire was contained days later after burning 2,246 hectares of the Royal National Park. We remember these brave firefighters.

14.01.2022 With the end of daylight savings over night. Its time to test your smoke alarm to ensure its working!

12.01.2022 The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast heat wave conditions to affect much of NSW until at least next Tuesday. This will increase the fire risk across much of state with Very High and Severe fire danger likely on the weekend. Plan and prepare now.
