24.01.2022 Recently we were fitting new joggers for a patient who was eager to get back to running six months after bub was born. Her biggest surprise? Going from an 8.5 to a solid 9.5 in shoe size! What she didnt know was that increasing your shoe size is VERY common among women after pregnancy. Its all thanks to a hormone called Relaxin, that circulates around the body during pregnancy. Its job is to help soften your ligaments, so your body can comfortably expand and grow with the... baby. It also affects the ligaments on your feet - softening them and meaning the foot can flatten, hence increasing in size. So if youre getting back into exercise after pregnancy, make sure to check your shoes still fit!

14.01.2022 How long do orthotics last? The effective lifespan will depend on how much you use them and how much force you apply to them. This is typically between 12 and 36 months. If you have orthotics, its a good idea to drop in to see us at least every twelve months so we can check your orthotics and check if they are still working for you. If they need replacing, many private health insurers let you claim a new pair every twelves months, with only a small gap to pay.

13.01.2022 Are your kids extra flexible at their joints? If they are, they may have joint hypermobility syndrome. Dont worry - this is common in young children! In some cases, however, it can lead to problems like joint pain and injuries. ... If your child does develop any pain, have them assessed to help avoid possible future problems like the painful adult flat foot. Our podiatrists LOVE helping kids stay happy and active - so get in touch if something comes up.

07.01.2022 Any moisturiser is better than no moisturiser! When patients come in with corns, callus and cracked heels, they often ask what moisturiser is best to help prevent the problems from coming back (after weve treated them of course!). The truth is that while there are some great moisturisers out there, at the end of the day, any moisturiser is better than none!... By restoring moisture to your skin, you reduce the rate at which it dries out, becomes thick and painful, and leaves you vulnerable to other problems. Apply the moisturiser to your feet daily, especially the heels, avoiding the spaces between the toes and letting it dry and absorb so you dont slip. It really is the small changes that make the biggest difference.
