25.01.2022 At Central Adelaide we are ideas driven and we strive to put people first. This is a fantastic example of organisational values in action, benefiting our patients. Through a joint initiative with Northern Adelaide LHN, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander consumers can access life-saving dialysis in a culturally safe space, rather than having to come to hospital. ... 25.01.2022 A new project in conjunction with SAHMRI's Aboriginal Chronic Disease Consortium is helping remote consumers with diabetes related foot complications. The initiative aims to use telehealth to help improve outcomes for patients through awareness and early intervention. Port Augusta man Cephas Stanley, has made three trips to the RAH after a wound on his foot became infected.... To come down here you have to take a couple of days off work, so if you don’t actually need to come here, that’s a big help, Mr Stanley said. If this is utilised in Port Augusta, the APY Lands, West Coast, all the little communities, it’ll be a big help. To read more about the initiative visit our website: https://centraladelaide.health.sa.gov.au/diabetes-related-/

17.01.2022 Tomorrow is World Diabetes Day which this year is recognising the role of nurses in the prevention and management of diabetes. Like so many people with diabetes, David Fraser is faced with an average 180 extra decisions every day - having to consider every meal, every snack, every activity and more. He’s grateful for the support of our Diabetes Service team - a one-stop shop where he can see a multi-disciplinary team including endocrinologist, dietitian and specialist diabetes nurses.

17.01.2022 This year, in honour of International Year of the Nurse and Midwife, we are reflecting on the more than 2800 Australian women who served overseas in the Australian Army Nursing Service (AANS) during the war. Of those women, 25 died during their services. One of South Australia’s most well-known Royal Adelaide Hospital nurses, Margaret Graham was the Lady Superintendent of the Nursing Reserve in the Fourth Military District and sailed to Egypt in 1914, serving for four years in hospitals, hospital ships and in Britain before receiving the international award of the Royal Red Cross. Today we pay tribute to the memory of Margaret Graham, and all other nurses and medics who died or suffered in the service of Australia in all wars and armed conflicts. Lest we forget.

10.01.2022 A vital program providing support to consumers following a suicide attempt is being implemented in a collaboration between CAHLN and AnglicareSA. The Way Back Support Service (TWBSS) was developed by Beyond Blue in 2014 as a psycho-social service response to support people following a suicide attempt or experiencing suicidal crisis. It will initially be trialled in the Royal Adelaide Hospital’s emergency department and mental health unit, then be rolled out to The Queen Eliza...beth Hospital and Community Mental Health Teams. TWBSS Support Coordinator, Brook Stevens (pictured), said the service aims to assist consumers and their families by linking them with appropriate support services to help manage life’s challenges. 06.01.2022 A new initiative at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital is encouraging frail patients to initiate mobility and feel motivated to walk around the ward. Physiotherapist Matt Rugari, and the wider geriatrics team, worked together to design the GEMtopia corridor, complete with fairy lights and themed decorations. The corridor joins other strategies on the ward to encourage mobility, including a photo and pet wall at the back of the ward.... Patient Beverley Kuehn was admitted to hospital after experiencing postural hypertension which caused her to fall. She has been undergoing physio treatment to help improve mobility. I’m quite happy to do laps of the ward, there are lots of walls of photographs that fascinate me. There are photos of pets and I’m really taken by a photo of a cat with green eyes.
