24.01.2022 Monday, May 12, 2014 MEDIA ALERT FROM AFL NORTHERN TERRITORY CAFL Announces Womens Rep Game to be played in Central Australia.... The TIO Central Australian Football League has confirmed that there will be a Womens Representative game between The Central Australia All stars and an Indigenous Representative team from Adelaide on July 6. AFLNT Regional Manger for Central Australia, Andy hood says that he is extremely delighted that the CAFL and AFLNT have been able to achieve this result in such a short history with the Central Australia Womens Football league. The Game will see the best 22 Female AFL players across Central Australia, including Tenant Creek and will be an open age format, said Hood. Its always been a plan to organise a representative game for Womens footy, but for it to happen after three years is a fantastic testament to the growth in this Womens Football. There is a lot of talent amongst females already playing the game and hopefully this opportunity will encourage more females to play AFL. Hood also noted that Womens football is AFLNTs fastest growing participation segment and with over 169,000 participants nationally, female football is stronger than it has ever been. Womens football has been so well received in Alice Springs and is now an integral part of our football landscape in Alice and will be for years to come. The Regional Director of Clontarf for Central Australia Shaun Cusack, and inaugural Womens AFL Exhibition draftee Bronwyn Davey have been the driving force behind this initiative and full credit must go to both of them. The Representative game will be played on July 6 as a Curtain raiser for the Town v Country game at TIO Traeger Park. ENDS For further enquiries please contact: Andy Hood AFLNT Regional Manger Central Australia 08 89521670 [email protected]

Sorry for any inconvenience. If any teams wish to organise their own scratch matches against other clubs in the l...ead up to the season, AFLNT staff are willing to lend out equipment and help with organising an umpire if possible around our other commitments. The season will be a 12 week competition, followed by a 3 week finals series and culminating on CAFL Grand Final day which is September 20th.
