25.01.2022 We imagine newly re-elected NZ prime minister Jacinda Ardern has a very different expression today to the ones captured in her #ArchibaldPrize portrait by John ...Ward Knox! Ward Knox's work is painted on dual layers of silk, with two depictions of Jacinda Ardern emerging and blending based on the viewer's perspective. Artist and sitter have known one another for many years, and Ward Knox said of his depiction, 'I wished to portray the person as I’ve seen her somebody committed to a really tough and unrewarding job, who’s managed to stay grounded despite the whirlwind of domestic and international politics. I wish the painting to uphold some of the same humility as the subject.’ 'Jacinda' is on display now in the Archibald, Wynne and Sulman Prize 2020 exhibition, and on our website with artist statement and audio label: https://bit.ly/3j3Liol Archibald Prize 2020 finalist John Ward Knox 'Jacinda' the artist
