16.01.2022 It's a fracking hell right across Australia. Almost every Australian state and territory has seen fossil fuel projects quietly given the green light, while State governments tout their green credentials, with a flurry of announcements being made just this week.

16.01.2022 Youth unemployment is nearly 16%. Scott Morrison should be making TAFE and uni free for all and investing in secure, meaningful jobs. Instead his government has hiked uni fees and created a youth jobs scheme that will do little more than boost corporate profits.

So then why is ...the government so insistent that this is the case? Because they know that by making welfare as horrendous as possible it makes it much easier to exploit and abuse those in work. Capitalism needs a large group of unemployed people and they need their conditions to be dire. Doing so ensures that they can keep wages low and working conditions dangerous, as even these horrible conditions are preferable to poverty and the abuse of the Job Agency Network. A raise to all our welfare payments will not just improve conditions of those that are unemployed or on a pension but the entire working class. 01.01.2022 Did you know about this? David McBride is an Australian whistleblower -a veteran and special forces lawyer- and is on trial for exposing war crimes. He raised ...his concerns internally, then went to the Australian Federal Police, then in desperation finally to the media. His disclosures basically led to the release of the Brereton Afghanistan Report. Today I asked Minister Birmingham, speaking on behalf of the PM, whether he felt the disclosure of war crimes was in the public interest ...and he refused to directly answer my question. In response to my second question about whether the Government would rule out a prosecution of McBride, he refused to do this, but claimed that the Government is holding itself to the highest standards of transparency and disclosure. What a joke. If that's the case, why is he still before the courts, facing a long jail sentence? Why are they going after other whistleblowers such as Witness K and lawyer Bernard Collaery and demonstrating a chilling complicity in the extradition trial of Julian Assange? The Greens will continue to put questions to Government and advocate for those brave whistleblowers and publishers that dare to shine a light in the dark.
