17.01.2022 Cuboree2020 POSTPONED until September2021 The current COVID-19 pandemic that has caused such sweeping changes to the way events are being run has meant that man...y people are facing an uncertain future. The timing for Cuboree2020 put's it at quite a risky time for restrictions to be lifted and for people to be ready to return to such events. As a result the Cuboree Executive Committee is announcing the Cuboree2020 is not going to be able to go ahead in the September 2020 school holidays. Instead, we are going to offer: Cuboree2020 to be postponed until Cuboree2021 in the September school holidays of 2021 A special, one off, Scuboree sub camp for younger scouts who would have been able to attend Cuboree2020, but will be too old for 2021. This will be lead by scout leaders and will aim to give them a more age appropriate event, whilst still participating in the rest of the event Online Cuboree2020 Around the World in 18 months will be a FREE, open to ALL cub scouts and leaders, interactive set of online adventures to keep families engaged in Cuboree right up until the event. The Cuboree Application system will continue to remain open and you can still apply or withdraw your application at any time. Refunds are still available if you aren't able to join us in 2021, but we encourage you to consider being a part of our event as the world changes around us. For any questions, please contact: [email protected]

12.01.2022 We have been watching with horror on the tv news and in the newspapers, the unfolding stories of the bushfires in NSW and Victoria. Scouts NSW are using their Family Support Fund as the mechanism for matching donations to recipients. It is at https://www.nsw.scouts.com.au/familysupportfund/ See more

10.01.2022 Hi Everyone, an update to the survey. I have discovered the system removed people with the same e-mail address when I uploaded the list of participants (e.g. family with one email address but two youth members, only one youth member received the survey invitation). I have now added the additional people and they should receive an invitation shortly Be aware the survey invitation email may have gone to your JUNK mailbox.... The survey is to gauge interest in running a 5-day Activity Camp for the Scout Section at the beginning of next year (about the same time as the cancelled AJ2022). Please complete and return the survey (only has a few questions) by 14 Feb 2021. Note you can opt out of the survey which will stop further reminders being sent to you. If you didn't receive a survey invitation email and believe you should have, contact the Region Commissioner ([email protected]) or place a comment below.

09.01.2022 For all the Scout families that have caravans, motor homes and camper trailers. Owners of caravans, motor homes and camper trailers are advised that there is a potential safety risk while operating these appliances on LP Gas. Under certain conditions, the water heaters can generate elevated levels of Carbon Monoxide which, in some instances, may spill into the habitable space of the caravan, motor home or camper Trailer.... Carbon Monoxide (CO) is a colourless, odourless gas that can adversely affect the health when inhaled. In large concentrations CO can be lethal. 02.01.2022 This National Volunteer Week Scouts Queensland acknowledge and celebrate the generous contributions of the 3000 volunteer Scout Leaders in Queensland. Mary Wall...ace has been a uniformed volunteer supporting Scouting for 37 years. Starting as a volunteer Leader at Calen Scout Group and then progressing through various support roles at Group, District and Region level. In her current role she is a District Leader in the Hibiscus Coast District responsible for the growth and development of young people within this Region. Mary has been awarded the Silver Emu, a Scouts Australia award recognising further distinguished service. Mary says that she volunteers for Scouting as she believes that success is measured not by what you do but what you do to make other people achieve great results. Mary, we salute you as one of the community’s unsung volunteers. See more

02.01.2022 The 26th Australian Jamboree will be held in January 2022 at Elmore, Victoria. Probably. Meanwhile, as Scouts, we need to be prepared. Scouting families need to learn about the Jamboree through local Jamboree launches. That includes Cub Scouts who will link next year AJ2022 may be their only opportunity to attend a Jamboree as a Scout.... Individual Scouts and Group fundraising teams need to start planning and saving. Applications haven’t opened yet due to the current uncertainty in the world, but Groups and Contingents need to know likely attendance numbers soon so they can do their planning. In October, Contingents will supply their Scout Groups with all the resources they need to run a great local Jamboree launch. This kit will make it easy to explain to families and youth members (don’t forget those Cub Scouts!) what’s involved, and why a Jamboree is such an amazing, life-changing, growth experience for young people. Scouts (and Leaders, Venturer Scouts and Rover Scouts) will then go to a special ‘Expression of Interest’ link on the AJ2022 website (https://www.aj2022.com.au/). They’ll say they’re interested in attending AJ2022, but there is no obligation. The upside is that they’ll be the first to hear when applications open. Applications will open when it’s safe to do so. This means the actual application period could be shorter than usual. Which is another good reason to complete the ‘Expression of Interest’ so you know what’s going on. Who knows how long the current uncertainty will continue? We desperately hope that AJ2022 won’t have to be postponed. The worst that happens is that AJ2022 will be the most thoroughly planned Jamboree in Australian history! Jon Willis Chief Director AJ2022
