24.01.2022 How nice and neat are these modern skylights? Well designed so debris washes down and around the dome so you don't have to get up there and keep them clean. I would call them maintenance free.

14.01.2022 I've lost count on how many dodgy jobs I've either had to repair or replace this month. Here's another, typical example of why you must be so careful on where you use silicone. In this example, the silicone was exuberantly over used, which dammed up water under the flashing which in turn caused the metal roof to rust prematurely. First pic is what we were faced with. 2nd pic removal to find the damage. 3rd pic cut the rusted sections away. 4th pic, a technique used when the original corrugated iron cannot be removed such as solar panels in this case. We installed a flashing into a flashing. Finally, a pic of the damage by an incorrect install. Last pic, job done.

09.01.2022 Gees, would you believe I'm quoting against so-called skylight experts like this? It would be deemed "sour grapes" if I made mention of this guy's (lack of) quality of work while I'm there quoting for the job. If his work wasn't bad enough, he made a very bad hack of the entire job. PIC2 golden rule: NEVER, EVER use an angle grinder on a metal roof in situ. A hot piece of metal can sit inside the roof smoldering away for weeks waiting to catch alight and burn the house down. PIC3, don't fill the ceiling up with silicone to make it look like it's not leaking, Sheesh! The frustrated owners eventually run out of patience and gave us a call. PIC4: We could've spent all day cleaning the silicone off the roof but the owner had already paid twice within a year to get it right, leak free and professionally installed in a tradesman like manner.

06.01.2022 Sometimes there is just no way a normal skylight can be installed. In this situation, there is a second story above, so, the only option available is a solar panel driven led-light. It turned out to be quite effective. The panel can be placed anywhere on the roof to take advantage of the best possible sunlight. A low voltage wire joins the panel with the light inside.
