24.01.2022 Hello all of the patrons and friends of the Central Highlands Lodge Its been some time since we have updated you on the latest news at the Lodge, we have been so busy with the renovations that unfortunately there hasnt been any time. We have now finished most of the internal upgrades on the dining room and lounge with the beautiful new fireplace being a feature. Last week we managed to get much of the external concreting at the front of the Lodge finished and painted. I kn...ow many of you tested the bollards for us to check they were sturdy. Unfortunately with the introduction of the new Government regulations we now need to close the bar and dining room. At present The Lodge remains open for accommodation and we also continue to provide service for Australia Post operating the Miena CPA. We will be opening for collection on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 3pm 5pm. Take care and stay safe See more

13.01.2022 View from the Lodge - nasty bush fire Stay safe everyone

12.01.2022 For those aviation buffs out there we have a Coulson air tanker Lockheed Hercules C-130 doing loops to the Central Highlands bush fires: From the website https:...//www.coulsonaviationusa.com/fleet/ C-130 HERCULES The Lockheed C-130 Hercules is a four-engine turboprop military transport aircraft designed and built by Lockheed Martin. Its ability to use unprepared runways for takeoffs and landings make it very effective in aerial firefighting. The C-130 has been our leading attacker in firefighting. The C-130H Hercules with a Coulson RADS-XXL 4,000 US Gallon roll-on roll-off tanking system, is quite a force to be reckoned with. See more

05.01.2022 FIRE ... TWISTER? This crazy sight was spotted in Liawenee yesterday, as the Central Plateau fires continue. Fire tornados usually start with a whirl of wind ...or smoke, and may occur when intense rising heat and turbulent wind conditions combine to form whirling eddies of air. These eddies can also contract into a tornado-like vortex that sucks in burning debris and combustible gases. The danger is that embers can be sucked in and deposited many kilometers from the fire Thanks to Michael Brooks from ABC Tasmania for an amazing photo. 02.01.2022 Snow plough going past the Central Highlands Lodge at Miena thanks to Laufe who says: "Its been one busy machine!" The Central Highlands Lodge offers welcoming... accommodation on the shores of the magnificent Great Lake, in the small Central Highlands township of Miena, in Tasmania, Australia. The spectacular drive from either Launceston or Hobart takes around 1.5 hours and the lodge has excellent proximity to some of Tasmanias best lakes, trout and fly fishing.
