19.01.2022 Central Hotel, Maryborough, Qld. 173 Adelaide Street, Maryborough. A publican in the bustling 1860s came home one afternoon and found his wife lying behind the bar of the hotel that was first known as the Carpenters Arms. Accustomed to seeing her in that state, he took little notice and went out again. When he returned he took a closer look, found she was dead and mourned her briefly, if at all. He remarried two weeks later.... The Carpenters Arms was opened in 1863, later named the Shakespeare and then the Royal Exchange.
