23.01.2022 During pregnancy there are hormones in the body that relax ligaments in preparation for child birth. This in combination with extra weight in later pregnancy results in a lot of extra pressure on the feet and a flattening of the arches. Some women also experience swelling at the feet and ankles due to the extra pressure on the vascular system in the pelvic area. During pregnancy women often attend for regular nail cutting due to an inability to reach and see the feet.... Sometimes a Podiatry assessment and advice may be required after giving birth as sometimes changes to the feet during pregnancy remain and can cause pain. It is often common to go up a foot size post-natally Are you concerned about your feet during your pregnancy, give us a call. We are here for you 4970 5447

16.01.2022 SESAMOIDITIS tends to worsen gradually. What might start as a mild ache, can quickly increase to an intense throbbing. You may also notice swelling or redness around the big toe joint, and pain when trying to bend the toe upwards. Injuries to the sesamoid ...bones can range from mild irritation to a fracture (or break). It’s important to seek treatment early, to help prevent the problem and pain from worsening. We are here for YOU 4970 5447

16.01.2022 Case of the week CHARCOT FOOT - is a progressive condition that involves the gradual weakening of bones, joints and soft tissue of the foot or ankle. Charcot Foot is a severe complication of diabetes and is caused by peripheral neuropathy (nerve damage) in which the patients foot or ankle becomes insensate. This patient has gross changes involving the tarsus distally and MTT joints, fractures at the base of 2nd, 3rd, 4th metatarsals, causing ALOT of pain and discomfort. ... Our Podiatrist Rachel made an offloading device for our patients shoe which did the trick until she got into a high risk clinic who will fit her in a CAMboot, offloading pressure from the affected area... the team involved is hoping this will be enough as surgery at this stage is too risky If this condition is left untreated it can lead to amputation

14.01.2022 CORNS are painful points on the feet made of hard, dead skin or keratin. They are caused by many things, the main one being pressure and dry skin. Podiatrists will usually remove the corn in the clinical chair with a scalpel. This process is pain free and there is an immediate reduction in pain. As most things, if the cause of the pressure is not changed then the corn will come back over a period of time. Do you have Corns... Give us a call 4970 5447 See more

13.01.2022 F O OT O R T H O T I C S - are devices that are worn in the shoes to correct flat or high arched foot postures. There are many different types of foot orthotics and many different places that prescribe and sell them. The three main types of foot orthotics are off the shelf orthotics, semi-custom orthotics and custom orthotics. Off the shelf foot orthoses are the most common type of foot orthotic and can vary substantially depending on who and where they are prescribed.... Most foot orthotics purchased from a retail store will in most cases not be sufficient for the treatment of foot related pathologies and will not last very long due to poor soft materials. If the right device is prescribed to the right person, off the shelf foot orthoses can be a great treatment option for many foot conditions. Semi-custom foot orthoses are a device usually reserved for children as an alternative to a custom foot orthotic. These devices are called semi custom foot orthotics as the shell is not customised but the top cover is. This is where it gets its name semi-custom foot othotic as the device has custom parts as well as non custom parts. Custom foot orthotics are devices made specifically for a person by taking a 3D casting of the patients foot. This can be achieved with plaster, 3D foot scanner, fiberglass socks, foam box and many other ways. Custom foot orthotics can be prescribed by a Podiatrist usually following a full biomechanical assessment. This involves checking range of motion, gait analysis and the acquisition of a full medical history. Custom foot orthotics are best prescribed by a trained professional so if you think that you require advice or treatment by a friendly Podiatrist feel free to contact us 4970 5447
