22.01.2022 Meet the Artist: We are delighted to introduce one of our newer members to the studios - Sharifah Sorayya Martin Jamalullail. Sorayya’s multidisciplinary practice straddles two worlds. She began studying art in her youth, then started a career in medicine. After moving to Australia in 2000, she decided to return to her earlier passion for the Arts. ... Sorayya attained her Associate Degree in Visual Art from Adelaide Central School of Art in 2015 and has since explored a range of mediums and participated in many group exhibitions. A full-time General Practitioner and practice partner at Hazelwood Clinic, Adelaide, Sorayya has long balanced a range of perspectives and skills through her different personal and professional lives. Sorayya explores the duality of her cultures as an Asian Muslim woman from Malaysia with her life in Australia now through the diverse media of drawing, oil painting, printmaking, textiles, batik and needlework. 18.01.2022 STUDIO NEWS: Congratulations to our Studio Artist, Datsun Tran who is a finalist in the Lester Prize! #Repost @datsuntran with @make_repost ... Very happy that my piece ‘Self-portrait pursuing the three perfections’ is a finalist in the 2020 Lester Prize! Since the start of lockdown lifestyle in a Covid-19 world, I’ve reverted back to the first artforms I learnt. My dad taught me calligraphy when I was a child, but it was something I stopped doing in my teenage years. After a twenty-five year break, I’ve picked up the old calligraphy brush again and it’s like I never stopped. Muscle memory takes over and all the art I’ve made in the last twenty years flows through me. It’s something comforting and certain in an uncertain world. Winner of the $50,000 will be announced on 30th October at the Art Gallery of Western Australia. See more

17.01.2022 *STUDIO NEWS* - Congratulations to Studio Artist, Margaret Ambridge, who has won the People’s Choice Award in The Alice Art Prize 2020 for her beautiful work ‘STRUGGLING TO REMEMBER’. The interruption of raindrops falling on the iron roof of the studio seemed so at odds with the rain parched land I was drawing. I took the partly finished work outside and let the raindrops fall on the paper. The raindrops ‘splattered’ and the paper sucked up the moisture. I continue...d adding charcoal and the paper remembered where the raindrops had fallen. Our land is struggling to remember. M.
