25.01.2022 A routine microchip scan reunites Doris the cat with her original family after being missing for 7 years! Now 11 years old, Doris is back with them safe and so...und . This story is a good reminder about the importance of microchipping and keeping your contact information up to date. Sometimes chips aren't registered or changed over properly so make sure you check that your pet is actually on the appropriate database. To see what database they are on go to: http://www.petaddress.com.au/ and put in their microchip number . #reunited #7years #microchipyourpets

24.01.2022 A big thank you to everybody! (staff, clients, furry ones, the community etc) for making our transition from Castlemaine to Bendigo so smooth !! Our first weekend was a massive success thanks to you guys !
24.01.2022 Phew! That was a busy weekend! Thank you to all of our new and returning clients for showing patience with us as we sorted through each and every patient. With social distancing creating a tricky situation for us to have owners present at exam, everyone has done so well. We had numerous calls for chocolate toxicity but only one dog presented with clinic signs, a naughty doggo who ate a tin of raised raw hot cross buns showing clinic signs for yeast toxicity(the clinic smell...ed like a brewery for a few hours), grape toxicity, 3 toggle pins, two cruciates, a torn medial ligament, fracture repaire, bladder rupture, stitch ups, roo fights, dog fights, string foreign body, wildlife, breached puppy, breached puppy leading to caesarean and the added not quite right, not eating, vomiting and diarrhea, mega colon cat with ruptured anal gland and of course the lovely abscesses...just to name a few of our exciting case load. A MASSIVE shout out to our locum vets, our permanent vets, and all of our fantastic nurses who dedicated their long weekend to helping those in need. The work in the background may go unnoticed but is so much appreciated. We will re-open Friday evening starting at 7pm through to Monday morning around 8am. Stay safe, be kind
23.01.2022 Talk about awesome diagnostic equipment!! Here is Dr Senura using the endoscope to find a blue piece of string that a cat had swallowed. Fact: As the endos...cope was used, the procedure was minimally invasive rather than having to remove the string surgically. Which meant that the recovery for the cat was smooth & immediate. Well done Dr Senura and nurses! See more

16.01.2022 Sadly the images of plastic polluting the planets seas, oceans etc are becoming an all too common thing that we see on social media these days. It can often fee...l like there is nothing we can do to help stop this, but there are small changes we can make to help stop plastic pollution. If an average cat has 2 sachets of wet food a day that means that cat goes through 730 plastic sachets a year and sadly most of those sachets aren't widely recycleable. That's where Terracycle comes in. Terracycle runs a scheme where they will accept any type of pet food packaging (both wet food sachets and dry food packaging) and recycle it! If you would like to recycle your pet food packaging make sure it is clean and dry. Collection point are on the website. Nearest one is RSPCA shop in Bradford for others see terracycle map. https://www.terracycle.com/en-GB/brigades/petfood Source photo and words credit Cats Protection North London.

13.01.2022 Myth-busting Monday: "If my dog humps other dogs, he's being dominant" Humping is a common behaviour used by dogs and it rarely involves 'dominance' (does your ...dog win access to a resource or win a fight by humping for it? Probably not!). Of course many dogs will hump for sexual purposes, especially young intact males who are pumped full of hormones and need an outlet! However, humping also occurs frequently in dogs in non-sexual contexts. In fact, this behaviour is practised in puppies from a few weeks old as they learn to interact with their littermates. Mounting is an aspect of normal play behaviour in dogs, so you may notice both your male and female dogs will hump during play, often at the beginning or end. Largely, humping behaviour suggests arousal. Arousal means elevated emotions, for instance excitement, frustration or anxiety. You may notice in multi-dog interactions that one dog will get over-stimulated and start doggedly humping others. Or perhaps your two bonded family dogs often hump each other when guests arrive. Or maybe one dog has a tasty chew he will not share so another dog starts humping him out of frustration. (Note that this is rarely 'dominance' as the dog will rarely cause another dog to surrender an item by humping them.) Mounting can also be an affiliative behaviour that perhaps some dogs will use to attempt to win the affections of another dog. It is perfectly normal for female dogs to participate as well as males. So, in sum: humping is a complex behaviour related to social and sexual interactions and emotional states, but rarely 'dominance'. It can be used to initiate play, or during a pause in play. It can be used to diffuse tension, for affiliation, or as an outlet for frustration. Of course it can also be sexual. However, though rare, certain conditions causing pain or discomfort can also cause a dog to mount excessively or out of context. Therefore, if you are worried about your dog's embarrassing habit, you should seek the advice of a professional. . . . . . #schooling4dogssussex #schoolingfordogs #positivetraining #rewardtraining #positivedogtraining #dogtraining #dogtrainer #dogtrainingclass #dogbehaviour #puppytraining #dogs #puppy #obedience #doglover #ilovemydog #puppies #dogtricks #workingdog #happydog #lovedogs #sussex #clickertraining #positivereinforcement #happydogs #mythbusting #mythbustingmonday
