01.01.2022 MALICIOUS SOFTWARE UPDATE New kind of Crypto Locker Ransonware Virus On May 12, 2017, a new strain of the Ransom.CryptXXX (WannaCry or Wcry) strain of ransomware began spreading widely impacting a large number of organisations, particularly in Europe including Russia and the UK, but pretty much everywhere there’s a computer.... Wcry is demanding a ransom of $300 to $600 in Bitcoin to be paid by May 15 or, in the event that deadline is missed, a higher fee by May 19. The messages left on the screen say files will remain encrypted. This is not a joke or a hoax this is very serious. You should be extremely suspicious of all e-mails you receive, particularly those that ask the recipient to open attached documents or click on Web links. If you have seen unusual activity and believe your information may have been exposed, or if you want to discuss how Central Victorian Technology Services can assist with protecting your business from attacks like this please contact us by phone or email (http://www.cvts.com.au/Pages/Contact_Us.aspx). Don’t be a statistic, and don't let those you care about be a statistic. Please ensure this important warning is shared with all staff in your business - it only takes one person to click the wrong link, or open the wrong file, for the entire business to be affected.
