16.01.2022 Slow calving on green pick? Supply a lick! Our District Vets have been getting a few calls about calving losses lately. While it’s an important part of their ...job to consider and investigate nasty infectious diseases like Vibriosis, Pestivirus, Leptospirosis and Trichomoniasis, another common cause of calf losses, especially this season is lazy calving syndrome. This situation classically occurs in winter when calving cows are grazing green pick or cows grazing cereal crops. The underlying chemical reason for this mineral imbalance is that all that lush green feed contains high amounts of potassium, and not very much sodium. The trick is to feed a lick that contains sodium, magnesium and calcium to your calving cows

12.01.2022 These are the brands that were done 4 weeks ago * Soon after branding - the skin swells producing a welt in an outline of the brand. * In 2-3 weeks the brand will form a scab and peel. * 6-10 weeks after branding, unpigmented (white) hair will replace the scab. ... Freezebranding makes identifying cattle when they are in the paddock easy. The brands can be clearly seen from a distance which eliminates the need to run cattle into the yards to identify them.
