09.01.2022 You've probably heard the term 'herd immunity' a lot recently, especially in regards to vaccination, but do you know what it actually means? We reach 'herd immunity' when enough people are immunised to stop or slow the circulation of the disease. This reduces the likelihood of infection, which then affords protection for people who can’t be vaccinated. You can find out more about COVID-19 vaccines, including herd immunity at https://www.qld.gov.au//protect-you/covid-19-vaccine/about

01.01.2022 Be prepared for the heat. As you are no doubt aware, severe to extreme heatwave conditions are expected to affect large parts of western and south-western Queensland over the coming days. Community members are strongly urged to look after their own health and safety and to check in on those family, friends and neighbours who may be more prone to heat-related illness to make sure they are okay.... These include the elderly, infants, overweight and obese people, pregnant and breastfeeding women and people with some pre-existing health conditions. If you’re working outside, be sure to take precautions to ensure you keep cool. For instance, work for 1520 minutes, then rehydrate and cool off for 510 minutes before resuming. But if at all possible, avoid working outside while the current heatwave conditions persist. Drink plenty of fluids and don’t wait until you are thirsty to drink drink regularly throughout the day unless you have a specific condition and are under doctor’s orders to restrict fluid intake. Urine colour is a good guide to hydration it should be clear to light straw-colour, not dark or gold. Please see the guide below. And remember, never, ever, leave children, or animals, or anyone, unattended in cars in the heat. Temperatures can rise very rapidly and can be fatal in a surprisingly short period of time.
