23.01.2022 SCAM ALERT! We’ve had several reports of scammers calling people from what appear to be trusted NSW Police Force numbers and threatening the call recipients with fines or arrest. These scammers are using technology to make it appear that the calls originate from legitimate police phone numbers; a practice known as ID spoofing. The caller impersonates a NSW Police Force officer and states that the person receiving the call has an outstanding fine or warrant. The scammer demand...s a form of payment to prevent arrest or further court action. The NSW Police Force will never call a member of the public and demand payment over the phone in order to avoid going to court or being arrested. If you get an unexpected call from someone who states they're from the police, and starts asking for personal details or threatens you, please hang up. If you’re concerned, you can always verify by contacting your local police or the Police Assistance Line directly on 131 444. To find out more information about scams, or to find out other ways to protect yourself, visit www.scamwatch.gov.au. 18.01.2022 ACTIVE CITIZEN PROGRAM Each year between July and December we run the Active Citizen Program for selected Aboriginal students from Parkes, Forbes, Condobolin and Lake Cargelligo. We had to modify the program this year due to covid-19 but fortunately we could still run it. The Active Citizen Program aims to increase self-confidence and leadership skills; raise an awareness in how to be an active citizen in the community; and enhance cultural knowledge. Also as part of the prog...ram, participants complete their white card, first aid certificate and a communication in the workplace course. The program concludes with a leadership camp to Jindabyne and Canberra, with the main challenge being to hike to the summit of Mount Kosciuszko. All the participants made it up and back from this challenging hike - there was some snow left and the weather was great! We usually join with Tweed-Byron Police District for the leadership camp as they run the same program in their district. We missed them this year, and really look forward to meeting up again next year for the Active Citizen Program.
