10.01.2022 NSW GOVERNOR PROMOTES REGIONAL TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES The NSW Governor Her Excellency The Honourable Margaret Beazley AC QC stressed the importance of providing training opportunities for women at a recent online webinar promoted by the Central West Women’s Forum. With the disruption caused by COVID-19 to people’s lives, she stressed the importance of gaining qualifications to get back on the pathway to success. The one hour online webinar brought together 3 significant prof...essional providers: TAFE NSW, VERTO and Charles Sturt University to display the range of training opportunities which can be readily accessed by women in the Central West to further enhance their skills to gain employment after the temporary interruption created by COVID-19. Her Excellency stressed the disproportionate impact on women in areas such as hospitality, retail, travel and tourism which has occurred this year and highlighted the importance that higher qualifications can lead to increased job satisfaction and improved pay. She particularly emphasised opportunities which exist in trade areas where only 2% of the workforce is female. Rachael Buckerfield, senior counsellor at the Orange Campus of TAFE, then presented a range of short courses offered by TAFE in areas such as RSA, RCG, hairdressing and Excel spreadsheets which can be accessed in the next two months and can lead to immediate employment for school leavers and others, particularly in the lead up to what we hope will be a normal Christmas period. Annie Crasti from VERTO in Cowra focussed on the opportunities available for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and those with disabilities to engage in training opportunities and the links they have with employers to put people in suitable jobs. They particularly offer short courses in aged care and home support which are areas where significant employment opportunities currently exist. Steven Seabrook from Charles Sturt University noted that the university currently has 46,000 students most of whom are studying part time through flexible learning opportunities. He particularly noted the range of degree courses available in health care and management as well as a graduate Certificate in Leadership and Resilience which will have great benefit after the drought, bushfires and the 2020 COVID epidemic. At the conclusion of the three presentations, Central West Women’s Forum Chair, Mary Brell OAM thanked the three presenters and the Governor who responded that she hoped that she had helped create 100 new jobs. If you are interested in any of these programs, please contact the person named at the relevant organisation.
