13.01.2022 The Central Wheatbelt RBG has suspended its spring aerial wild dog baiting program due to a disagreement with the State Government. The $20,000 program sees he...licopter 1080 baiting in national park areas near Morawa and Perenjori. Under changes to the memorandum of understanding between the Biodiversity group and the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions. These changes mean the legal responsibility for the restricted chemical permit has now transferred to the biodiversity group. Previously the group operated on a permit owned by the DBCA. Central Wheatbelt RBG chair Chris Patmore said the group would not be taking that responsibility and had stopped baiting. "We have been operating under the current system for quite a few years," he said. "It's been working quite well and we've had no issues with baiting or no hassles or no incidents. "Now they have said we cannot use their name on RCP's." In a statement, Minister for Environment Stephen Dawson said he was aware of the issue. "It is my understanding that during a review of operational procedures last year, DBCA identified inconsistencies with the requirements of the Medicines and Poisons Act, Notices under that Act, and the Code of Practice," he said. "In response, DBCA revised the Memoranda of Understanding with RGBs for wild dog control. RBGs were made aware of this change in June 2019. "I have requested that DBCA works with other relevant government agencies and RBGs to find a pragmatic solution that enables wild dog control to continue. "

12.01.2022 Our usual Saturday morning work of art doesn’t last long, and that’s just how we like it!

11.01.2022 BIOSECURITY MATTERS I attended the AGM of the Eastern Wheatbelt Biosecurity Group last Thursday and was concerned to hear reports that the doggers contracted ...to manage the areas along the State Barrier Fence are unable to operate effectively because of the number of people illegally using the tracks alongside the fence. Trapping and removing wild-dogs and other pests is vitally important for our farming businesses and for the environment - and they must be able to operate safely and effectively. I have written to the Government to highlight the problem, there needs to be urgent action to ensure wild dogs are kept in check and the doggers can can get on with their job. WARNING It is illegal for the general public to travel on the track that runs alongside Western Australia’s State Barrier Fence. Only authorised vehicles are permitted. There are surveillance cameras in place to record unauthorised vehicles, which could face a $10,000 fine. Travel is only allowed on roads that transect the fence. The fence is a work site, frequented by Licensed Pest Management Technicians using poisons, traps and firearms to control wild dogs, and by DPIRD personnel carrying out maintenance and upgrades.
