19.01.2022 This Child Protection Week, our CEO Deb Tsorbaris writes that we must accept our collective responsibility to keep children safe during #COVID19. It is already clear that the pandemic and the recession it has triggered will profoundly impact our childrens future. A COVID-19 recovery plan must focus on the needs of children and their families to make sure that no child is left behind. As a sector, this means changing our focus from a crisis response to a whole-of-family appro...ach that works to support families to access the services they need #ncpw Read her post

We invite you to join with us in calling on the Morrison Government to deliver the permanent and adequate increase to social security payments that our society needs. New analysis shows that the cut to the Coronavirus Supplement at the end of December will see another 330,000 people plunged into poverty #StopTheXmasCut We all know that poverty exists. 16.01.2022 This child protection week we must all pause for a moment to remember Jack and Jennifer Edwards who were killed by their father in their home, which should have been their safe place. We remember the thousands of other Australian children who experience family violence. We know that for nearly half of all children who have been admitted to hospital for assault, the injury was inflicted by a parent. We also know that most violence in the home is perpetrated against mothers and their children. Child protection week serves as a reminder of the need to hold perpetrators of the violence to account and to protect children and their mothers. Every child has a right to feel and be safe in their own home.

15.01.2022 Today is World Children’s Day, and what better time to reflect on our responsibility to the 600 children aged 10-13 who are arrested, charged and imprisoned in Australia every year. These children have often experienced significant abuse and trauma, and have disconnected from school, family and, community. They deserve our support, not further punishment. The ACT recently voted to raise the age of legal responsibility from 10 to 14 years. Now it’s time for the remaining states and territories to do the same and #RaiseTheAge. Because children belong in playgrounds, not prisons. Send a letter to your local MPs asking them to #RaiseTheAge here: bit.ly/raisetheagewasc
