25.01.2022 What a fabulous campaign launched in time for #16DaysOfActivism and the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. We all have a role to play to challenge rigid gender norms and breakdown outdated stereotypes.
24.01.2022 'Our service is committed to addressing gender inequality which is both a cause and consequence of family violence and supports the Royal Commission’s finding that it is vital we move beyond crisis response, and fund prevention. Neither should come at the expense of the other. We need to build momentum and capability to understand the drivers of violence which is inter-generational work that requires sustained investment.'
23.01.2022 Today we celebrate Wear It Purple day. We send a message of solidarity to LGBTQIA+ youth - who are brave and beautiful in a world where stories of exclusion and bullying are still too common. We are committed to making the world safer and more inclusive, for all.... #WearItPurple

21.01.2022 Beautiful and powerful storytelling from Jaara elder, Uncle Rick Nelson. During NAIDOC Week, we reaffirm our commitment to supporting and honouring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the First Nations people of this land. We acknowledge their sovereignty and sacred link to this land. ... We celebrate their strong and enduring cultures and identities. We are sorry for the wrongs of the past and the ongoing impact of colonisation. We accept the invitation to walk with them and support the call for truth-telling about our history. We uphold the unique human rights of Aboriginal and Torres St Islander peoples and seek a better future where they have power of their destiny and their children flourish.
21.01.2022 There is no doubt that stress-related factors in this pandemic, in this current situation, including financial pressures, potential family disruption, social isolation, disruption to people’s usual personal and social roles, that can compound and exacerbate the underlying conditions that lead to violence against women. While these stress factors can increase the severity and frequency of violence, they do not in themselves cause it, and they certainly don’t excuse it there is no excuse for abuse. Here's where you can watch Natasha Stott Despoja's address to the National Press Club on the issue, Australia's ongoing national emergency: Violence against women. How can we eliminate it through COVID and beyond?
19.01.2022 Social isolation is often used as a tactic of abuse. Some examples may include: Restricting or monitoring your movements, and shutting you off from friends, family and other support networks. ... Insisting on being present during conversations with others, or making you feel guilty for ‘choosing’ to spend time speaking with others. Insulting you or putting you down, so you are less confident. Monitoring your communications devices and social media accounts. Making you scared to do anything without their consent. It is never your fault. You should be free to make your own choices. 15.01.2022 On the final day of #16DaysOfActivism and #HumanRightsDay we again highlight some of the great messaging we have seen across our region (and beyond) to shine a light on gender-based violence. We know gender inequality is the cause and consequence of violence against women - and it is an ongoing, serious issue in our country. We encourage all communities to continue having conversations about how they can help us achieve our vision of gender and social equality in a violence f...ree world. 15.01.2022 An increase in the number of breaches reflects the strong effort by Victoria Police not to tolerate breaches of family violence intervention orders. We know that when people start to breach orders, it indicates high risk for women. https://www.bendigoadvertiser.com.au//this-is-how-crime-/
15.01.2022 You can see there’s particular spikes at times when lockdowns were easing we knew there’d be an increase for demand when women were in a position to seek support. During the lockdowns we found more women had difficulty making contact, they were in the home more with perpetrators. Some of the police data may be attributed to that.

12.01.2022 We can't wait to see these start popping up across Bendigo later this month. 11.01.2022 Today, Aboriginal woman Tanya Day would have been celebrating her birthday. Instead, Tanya died while in police custody in 2017. The Director of Public Prosecutions recently announced it would not prosecute the two police officers who had oversight of Tanya while she was in a Castlemaine police cell, where she fell and hit her head.... We support the Day family in their calls for independent investigations of deaths in custody. And today, we join our sisters and all Aboriginal people across the country in wearing pink for Tanya. Her favourite colour. We reaffirm our commitment to supporting and honouring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the First Nations people of this land. We acknowledge their sovereignty and sacred link to this land. We celebrate their strong and enduring cultures and identities. We are sorry for the wrongs of the past and the ongoing impact of colonisation. We accept the invitation to walk with them and support the call for truth-telling about our history. 09.01.2022 It's great to see such a range of events happening across our region for #16DaysOfActivism this year. Along with our own program of events, we will be sharing what's happening throughout Loddon, on our social pages. We may not be able to come together this year to show our united efforts to end gender-based violence - but there's still plenty we can do!
08.01.2022 We know there are many women and children at risk of abuse during the COVID-19 global pandemic, as they spend more time behind closed doors with their abusers. It is not easy for them to find a safe way to contact support services. Social isolation is often used as a tactic of abuse. ... Some examples may include: - Restricting or monitoring someone’s movements, and shutting them off from their friends, family and other support networks. - Insisting on being present during conversations with others, or insulting them and making them feel guilty for ‘choosing’ to spend time speaking with others, rather than their abuser. - Monitoring their partner’s communications devices and social media accounts. Or, repeatedly checking in on them. - Using misinformation about the pandemic to control or increase fear, or limit access to available support. It’s important we find ways to stay connected with those we know are, or believe to be, at risk.
