23.01.2022 Another week done and dusted! Eddie and the C4PT team can't wait to see you all again next week! #playtherapy #centreforplaytherapy #childcentredplaytherapy

16.01.2022 Get To Know Our Team: Helena Say G'day to our Central Queensland Regional Manager, Helena! Helena is one of the Play Therapy extraordinaires working in our Rockhampton and Emerald offices.... Q: What's your background? A: Social Worker Q: Why did you become a Play Therapist? A: I felt like something was missing from my 'therapy toolkit' when working with children. There are so many great therapeutic approaches in working with children - However, at this time, I have found Play Therapy resonates with me strongly due to play being a child's natural language and the child having self-determination in their sessions. Q: What do you like most about being a part of the C4PT team? A: The supportive team and the awesome kiddos I get to spend time with. Q: If you were an animal, what would you be and why? A: A bear - they get to sleep for months on end and come out and eat their body weight in food. Q: Favourite movie quote? A: It's a Dirty Dancing one of course, "Nobody puts baby in a corner". . . . . . . #playtherapy #childcentredplaytherapy #childcounselling #childtherapy #centreforplaytherapy #c4pt

11.01.2022 Could your child's behaviour be caused by worry or anxiety? We all have moments of worry, but children communicate differently. They're still working out how to understand, process and convey their experiences & feelings. It's all part of growing up! Unfortunately this means it can be really easy to misread their behaviour as something other than what it might be.... Worry in particular can often present itself in various ways including behavioural changes and somatic symptoms. Next time you see these clues in your child, stop and take a moment to consider if this might actually be worry or anxiety. . . . . . 10.01.2022 Sometimes children who have experienced trauma earlier in life can display behaviour that closely resembles ADHD. 08.01.2022 Get To Know Our Team: Alannah Another week, another friendly C4PT face to get to know! Alannah is one of the talented Play Therapists working in our Melton office in VIC. If you're lucky you may even spy one of Alannah's adorable bunnies in the play room! ... Q: What's your background? A: I have a Bachelor of Psychological Science and Clinical Training in Play Therapy. I am nearing the end of my Grad. Dip. of Counselling which is super exciting as it's been a long journey having my 2nd child in the middle of it! Q: Why did you become a Play Therapist? A: I genuinely believe it is the most effective way to communicate with children and it's important for me to be in a job where I feel like I effect change. It is the most rewarding job. Q: What's your favourite thing about being a Play Therapist? A: Seeing the natural growth children make through therapy without them being aware of the work they are doing. For them (and me) it's just fun time spent. But little do they know they are actually paving their own way to a better future. Q: What was your favourite toy as a child? A: Barbies! I had sooo many and gave all of them names. Interestingly, my brothers really enjoyed pulling the heads off them Q: What are three words that best describe you? A: Talkative Honest Passionate Q: Favourite movie line? A: "When given the choice between being right and kind, choose kind" - Wonder . . . . . #playtherapy #childmentalhealth #childcentredplaytherapy #childtherapy #centreforplaytherapy

06.01.2022 After 3 years of operating out of our little one room office in Emerald, the time has finally come! For those families who know our Emerald office you will know there was a time not that long ago when we had a fold up table as a reception desk so this is very exciting. From Wednesday we will have two playrooms, a dedicated parent consult room, a reception area, an office area and internal toilets (hooray!)! A huge shout out goes to our ever reliable maintenance man Grant an...d his trusty side kicks Chelsea and Jake for making the trip with Kylie to put it all together. Another big thanks goes to the Emerald team and families for their patience during the process. Come down to Borilla Street and say hello if you get the chance, you can’t miss us #c4pt #cqplaytherapy #playtherapy #movingupintheworld #emerald

02.01.2022 Yes! How easy is it to be guilty of dismissive listening? Often, our natural human reaction is to 'fix' what others are going through - witnessing others' pain is uncomfortable and hard to sit with. However (and this is a skill), healing happens by being HEARD and empathetic listening can do so much more for someone's mental wellbeing than offering solutions straight off the bat. ... In child centred play therapy, we empathetically listen to children through their language of play to help them process their thoughts & feelings. Empathetic listening isn't easy, it's a skill - but it works and it's something we can all do! . . . . . @keeleyshawart #empatheticlistening #playtherapy #childcentredplaytherapy #childtherapy #childmentalhealth #childmentalhealthmatters #childcounselling
