24.01.2022 TUESDAY WISDOM We hope you have had a wonderful start to your week, and that this little quote sets you on the path to a beautiful day ahead
21.01.2022 Anxiety is experienced at different time points for different people, and can be a perfectly normal response to a one-off stressful period or worrying event. However, for some, anxiety can persist and become a chronic mental health condition. Several nutrients and herbs work to calm the nervous system and nourish a stressed body and mind. A few of our favourites include ...... Magnesium - When anxious, your body actively eliminates magnesium, which is a catch 22, as a magnesium deficiency actually leads to releasing more stress hormones. Ensuring healthy levels of magnesium inhibits the stress response and increases the activity of your calming neurotransmitter working brilliantly to reduce anxiety. B vitamins - The neurotransmitter adrenaline, and the adrenal hormone cortisol, are the primary drivers of stress in the body. B vitamins are required to synthesise both of these, with anxiety therefore increasing the body’s demands for these vitamins. Passionflower - This herb works fantastically to increase the activity of your master anxiolytic neurotransmitter, and does so without causing drowsiness. Zizyphus - Holding a long history of use for states of nervous tension, this herb inhibits excess stimulation within the brain that occurs during stress; calming anxiety, frustration and irritability, and promoting sleep. When you change your mind about stress, you can change your body's response to stress. What are you grateful for today?
20.01.2022 Warming Essential Oils Ah-choo! Cold feet, blocked nose, Body aches and body stress! Confronted by winter and the sudden changes in temperature, the dryness and the wet will have come as a shock to your body system. There are several reasons and you are barely aware of them, yet they severely impact your body. Whether it is due to the weather, work, play, irregular exercise, poor sleep, commuter stress and all sorts of other things feeling a sense of soreness in your bo...dy is highly likely. We find that the use of warming massage oils can effectively alleviate aches and pains, whilst stimulating your body systems. An aromatherapy blend is sure to lift you up better than a dose of Codral ever will!! Unlike conventional medicines, aromatherapy oils have both physiological and psychological effects. How about some warming massage oils such as Black Pepper Essential Oil, hot and fiery? Or perhaps Ginger Essential Oil, hot and tonifying? Or what I usually use in the clinic Arnica, a warming and soothing blend of rich extracts of arnica, sweet almond, vitamin E and tea tree oils. The Arnica Blend is warming and profoundly soothing for aching muscles and joints great for recovery treatments, and stimulating the blood circulation. And when you’ve finished your treatment, you will be generously served with a cup of warm ginger root and gooseberry tea, which is a refreshing detox mix to set you right back on your feet again! Application of these essential warming massage oils together with a rich consistency of deep massage techniques will ultimately leave you pain free, feeling relaxed, and finding new energy to get back into the mainstream. I call these essential oils our winter power pack, to stimulate immune systems. Get your blood circulation going and soothe away pains and aches, through warm deep tissue massage with essential oils. Now then! Come along. Rejuvenate your mind, body and soul with great essential oils and a great massage.
15.01.2022 Practicing breathing exercises helps clear chest congestion and helps boost immunity. Kapalbhati Pranayama is a form of breathing that heats up the body, so it is good to do in winter. Sit comfortably with your spine erect. Place your hands on the knees with palms open to the sky. Take a deep breath in. ... As you exhale, pull your stomach. Pull your navel in back towards the spine. Do as much as you comfortably can. You may keep your right hand on the stomach to feel the abdominal muscles contract. As you relax the navel and abdomen, the breath flows into your lungs automatically. Take 20 such breaths to complete one round. After completing the round, relax with your eyes closed and observe the sensations in your body. Do two more rounds. Avoid practicing this breathing technique if you have an artificial pacemaker or stent, epilepsy, hernia, backache due to slip disc, or have recently undergone abdominal surgery. Women should not practice this technique during and shortly after pregnancy as well as during menstruation as it involves vigorous abdominal squeezes. People with hypertension and heart problems should practice this breathing technique only under a yoga expert's guidance. ~Written by our wonderful practitioner Jennifer Gallanagh
14.01.2022 Most people think of ghee and suddenly the words like ‘cholesterol’, ‘fat’ and ‘unhealthy’ come up. Well I am here to tell you that this golden elixir has been used for centuries for its amazing health benefits. Ayurveda teaches us that the consumption of ghee offers a range of benefits, including clarity of mind and sound digestion. Ghee also augments intellect and enkindles digestive enzymes, according to Ayurveda scriptures. ... Ghee is not only useful in the kitchen, it is also wonderful for the health and vitality of your skin. Now for those of you that want western scientific evidence on the benefits of ghee, let’s take a moment to dive in even deeper. In the West, the thought of consuming ghee for its health benefits might seem a bit backward because we are programmed to believe that fat well makes us fat? Research has shown that moderated consumption of healthy fats are essential for health and longevity. Ghee is jam packed with essential fatty acids and Vitamins. Ghee keeps our joints lubricated, skin and hair lustrous, provides support for our internal organs, boosts our immune system, power our brains and lowers cholesterol - this is because it doesn't allow anything it comes in contact with to 'stick', thereby supporting the function of our organs without creating an obstruction. Ghee also contains butyric acid which is known to heal internal wounds, particularly in the gastrointestinal tract. It also strengthens the colon and promotes regular elimination patterns. Some vitamins in ghee include Vitamins A, E, D and K. Vitamin A is essential in keeping eyesight strong, while Vitamin E has powerful antioxidant and hydrating effects, Vitamin D keeps our bones healthy and Vitamin K supports heart health. Ways to Use Ghee Ghee is excellent for cooking - it’s one of the safest oils to cook with. Spread it on toast instead of butter. Add a teaspoon of ghee to your hot breakfast cereal. Add ghee to your coffeesounds strange, but it’s delicious! Melt over steamed vegetables or rice. Sauté your culinary spices in ghee and add to soups and stews. ~ Written by our Ayurveda practitioner Priya See more

05.01.2022 Today we will be looking at fermented foods which are specific for gut health. Fermented foods contain live bacteria and are therefore a good source of probiotics which strengthen the immune system and the gut microbiome. Fermentation breaks down the sugars and starches in foods making them easier to digest. ... Some examples of fermented foods include: -Kefir -Plain yoghurt -Fermented vegetables -Pickles (in salt, not vinegar) -Sauerkraut -Kimchi -Kombucha -Apple cider vinegar You can ferment your own vegetables using the following process: Ingredients: -2 cups filtered water -1 to 1-1/4 tablespoons salt -2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar -1 large carrot cut into diagonal slices -1 to 2 cups chopped cauliflower -3 small stalks celery (use only small inner stalks from the heart), cut into 2.5cm sticks -1 bay leaf -1 cabbage leaf, rinsed Method: -Warm the water (no need to boil). Stir in the salt until it dissolves completely. Set aside to cool. Add the vinegar just before using. -Set a quart-size canning jar in the sink and fill it with boiling water to sterilize. Empty the jar and tightly pack the vegetables and bay leaf inside to within 2.5 5cm from the top of the jar. Pour the brine over the vegetables to fill the jar to within 2.5cm from the top. Wedge the cabbage leaf over the top of the vegetables and tuck it around the edges to hold the vegetables beneath the liquid. -Set jar on the counter and cover with a fermentation lid. Let pickle for three to five days, depending on the indoor temperature. Check the taste after a couple of days, using clean utensils. Vegetables will pickle faster in warmer climates. Make sure the vegetables stay packed beneath the level of the liquid and add salted water (2 teaspoons salt dissolved in 1 cup warm filtered water) as needed. -When the vegetables are pickled to your liking, seal the jar with a regular lid and refrigerate. Vegetables will continue to slowly pickle in the refrigerator. They will keep for about one month. Happy fermenting!

03.01.2022 There’s a special massage touch involved in complex lymphatic drainage procedures. It applies with more than just cancer procedures. -Lymphoedema -Lipoedema Pre and Post Surgery (like Liposuction) -Fibromyalgia, Sinus Congestion ... -Pregnancy Odema -Fluid Retention, Hormonal puffiness, Toxic congestion -Pain Relief, Arthritis, Headaches -Sleeping Disorders The lymph system is under-estimated for its significance in your body chemistry. We are re-establishing balance and natural healing within your body. The Casley-Smith Method of DLD is an evidence based treatment: 1. Drainage: DLD moves fluids, carrying waste cell-matter and products, guiding it from interstitial tissue into the lymphatic system, circumventing deep scar tissue lines and fibrosis. 2. Immune Response: DLD redirects the flow of fluids to remaining lymph nodes, encouraging the destruction of pathogens. 3. Analgesic: DLD stimulates receptors in the skin, which trigger relief & pleasure sensations, and activate the central nervous system, combatting pain. 4. Sympatholytic Effect: DLD stimulates the sympathetic response (relieving stress, calming amygdalic fear, fight, flight response), while encouraging the parasympathetic response (restfulness and digestion). The real aim of treatment is management and improvement in quality of life. Procedures are designed to soothingly redirect interstitial fluid away from congested lymph areas, and towards undamaged node centres, through alternate pathways. Swelling goes down. Hope goes up. Life gets better. Every Centro client has a unique story and presentation, and receives a unique plan and procedure to re-energise lymph system performance for better outcomes in your quality of life. ~ Written by our wonderful practitioner Cheng-Lye
