As it passes through the metering device to a lower pressure, the liquid evaporates and cools. This cool gas then passes through a series of coils also known as the evaporator core. After passing through the evaporator core, the low pressure freon gas returns to the compressor. The blower motor blows air through the cold evaporator core, removing the heat from the air. As the belt wears, the ribs become thinner and thinner and when the belt is completely worn, the belt rides on the peaks of the drive pulley. This reduces the grip between the belt and pulley and causes the belt to squeal. When the belt tensioner becomes weak, the belt is not wrapped tightly enough around the pulleys, potentially resulting in slipping, especially on components that require a lot of energy to rotate, such as the alternator. This can result in squealing noises and reduces accessory efficiency. A misaligned belt tensioner - where the surface of the tensioner pulley doesn t run parallel with the belt and other pulleys - can occur with automatic spring tensioners. The misaligned tensioner pulley puts greater pressure on a small section of the belt, which eventually causes a rib or multiple ribs to become detached from the belt. David Whittle says split rim or multi-piece rimmed tyres can explode - causing serious injuries or death when being inflated without proper precaution. Safework SA says the incidents happen every year, prompting a reminder to those inflating tyres of the risks when doing so. Split rims are commonly found on forklifts, earth-moving... machinery and wheelbarrows. Theyre also used in heavy vehicles, like trucks and buses and are different from regular wheels found on most cars because the rim is made up of multiple parts held together by bolts or a lock ring.
