25.01.2022 We have had a few questions from members who are essential services workers about getting to and from work. This is advice from the SA Government website: I am an Essential Worker. Will I have to show ID if Police stop me? Please ensure you have identification on you and where possible evidence to prove your workplace/occupation. This could include but is not limited to workplace id, uniform etc.

24.01.2022 After completing the Anna Stewart Memorial Program, which gives women union members a closer look into how their Union functions, Racha El and Trinity Ellacott shared their valuable experience with their fellow CEPU members.

20.01.2022 Todays announcement by the South Australian Government to implement 6 days of COVID circuit breaker restrictions will impact many CEPU members. https://www.covid-19.sa.gov.au/response Industries such as Construction and Manufacturing will be completely closed down. In other essential industries such as Electricity and Water supply, limitations will be implemented. Your entitlement to be paid whilst on forced leave due to COVID restrictions will be determined by your enterpri...se agreement and/or award provisions. Contact your organiser if you have any questions or concerns. The CEPU is calling on all employers to enable workers who can, to work from home and to provide special paid leave and/or access to leave entitlements for employees who cannot work from home. It is not clear as yet what, if any, State and or Federal Government assistance will be available, we will keep members informed regarding this when we are able. If you are in the SA Building Industry Redundancy Scheme (BIRST) you can access COVID hardship payments if you have no paid leave entitlements left -find out more by clicking: https://www.birst.com.au/pdf/BIRST_COVID-19.pdf. If you are covered by the Protect severance scheme, you may be able to access COVID hardship payments find out more by clicking: https://www.protect.net.au/workers/hardship-payment/ In accordance with the restrictions, the CEPU SA Office will be closed. Our office phone lines will remain open and attended and our organisers will be there to take your calls. Stay safe, lets kill this thing off.

12.01.2022 Congratulations to our Queensland comrades for their work in achieving an ALP win against the LNP. Let's do the same in SA in 2022.

09.01.2022 COVID-19 Update from PEER Training The health and safety of apprentices, students, employers, staff and their families remain a top priority for PEER. Following todays announcement from the South Australian Premier Steven Marshall MP, the state will be going into lockdown for 6 days effective from midnight tonight, Wednesday 18th November. This includes the closure of schools and educational facilities, including PEER. PEER’s trade training center will be closed while the cu...rrent restrictions are in place. Remote training will also not occur during this time. Under the new restrictions, the construction industry is closed (excluding essential services) and PEER apprentices will remain allocated to their current host employer. If a PEER apprentice is working in an essential service, there is an expectation that they will continue to work in accordance with the requirements of the host employer. Essential areas of PEER, such as our Payroll and Customer Service departments, will continue to work remotely to process apprentices’ pays. PEER will pay apprentices for the 4 working days during the state-wide lockdown (7.6 hours per day only) but Host employers will not be charged for this unworked period. Apprentices will need to enter ‘trade school’ on their timesheet for the period of 19 November 2020 to 24 November 2020. PEER's Payroll team will only be contactable via email during this period ([email protected]). PEER reserves the right to change or amend the above directive based on the government’s advice. We understand you might be feeling anxious but as a team, together we can work through the challenges we are faced with. Support is available through PEER's Employee Assistance Provider SMG Health, for all PEER apprentices and all PEER students who are feeling concerned or anxious. Call 1800 273 865 or email [email protected]. Peter Nolan CEO

09.01.2022 Write up in the National ETU News about the SAPN EA campaign.

03.01.2022 An important message from Australian Unions, I want to let you know about important data that was released today by the Australian Bureau of Statistics and tell you why it’s important: During the pandemic and the first Australian recession in 30 years, corporations made the highest rates of profit as share of national income in recorded history.... This compared to the official ABS data showing that the share of national income going to workers has fallen to 51.7 per cent, the lowest since 1964. What does this mean? Even though we’re in a pandemic, even though we’re in a recession corporate profits for the wealthy are massively soaring. But the people who carried Australia through the recession -- working people -- are being left behind. This must be a wake-up call for the Government. Can you take a minute to add your name to our petition to support the hidden heroes. We need to ensure that Scott Morrison understands that he needs to put working people first, not corporate profits We’re seeing record profits during a global pandemic and with large parts of the economy severely damaged. That’s not the sign of an economy that is working for working people. The Morrison Government still has no plan to save jobs and create the jobs we need to restart the economy. Instead, they’re cutting back and then cutting out JobKeeper altogether, and meeting with corporate lobbyists pushing for cuts to workers’ wages and conditions. John, your voice is powerful. Tell the Government that they can’t heal the economy if they allow workers to be punished. In solidarity Michele O’Neil ACTU President

01.01.2022 Sign up to support upgrading our national electricity transmission infrastructure. We need a more interconnected grid to increase renewable energy generation and grid scale storage projects. This investment will reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve reliability and reduce power bills as well as creating jobs for CEPU members.
