Built originally without the verandah which was added later then removed, the cottage had a slate roof , a picket fence and dirt floor The people in the picture at the back of the cottage are Sarah Jane Heal who was the local school teacher. She also worked as a member of the Red Cross during the war (WW1) Her husband Herbert Heal, (pictured) was the blacksmith who worked in the forge in the corner of Heal St and Barrabool Road. Also pictured is their son Les Heal. The dates are circa 1919 .The family left the district after the war and went to Euroa.
