25.01.2022 This one goes back a while, but still good advice... While we dont have the same problems of knife crime as other jurisdictions around the world, a VERY high percentage of subjects Natural Resource Protection AO's encounter will have a knife available. Whats your 'Bread & Butter' response? ... https://www.forcescience.org//bread-butter-tactics-work-b/
24.01.2022 Today the 5th and final two-day Situational Safety & Tactical Communication course kicked off for Authorised Officers (& others) from the Environment Protection Authority. The course teaches engagement professionals how to safely and professionaly interact with the public (who are sometimes not happy to see them!) We cover topics like: ... + Dealing with difficult people + Safely approaching vehicles & interacting with the occupants + Risk assessment & planning + Dealing with insults & abuse + many, many more Great work team. You do a great job looking after the environment.
23.01.2022 Time once again to break out the old gears.
22.01.2022 Interesting 4-part study on the effectivness of academy (induction) training on skill development and retention. FSI conclude this second article with a comparison with High School Football, reasoning that even in that environment a player retains more skill than what professional Law Enforcement Officers do! The challenge for training organisations such as CERT Australia is, how to we overcome these challenges within a time and budget restricted environment?....watch this space!
21.01.2022 Great catching up with Federal Agencies in the Nations capital today. Our flagship SSTC Foundation course is a perfect fit with their ethos of keeping their staff safe. We hope to help them achieve this! ..."you can't beat Canberra on a good day"...
21.01.2022 Yep this seems to be ok... Thanks Parks VIC (Boroka lookout, Grampians National Park, VIC)
20.01.2022 Ahhh yeah the sea conditions are always like this in NZ Boarding from HMNZS ROTOITI #Whangaroa Bay, East Coast, North Island, NZ
20.01.2022 Folks, We have just enhanced our training offering, firstly to simplify things for clients when selecting the most appropriate course, but more importantly, to align ourselves with Australian Nationally Recognised Training. We hope to (finally) complete this process in the very near future. In the meantime, have a look at our SERVICES tab where you will see our cohesive offering, starting with our comprehensive two-day SSTC Foundation course. What do you think? looks easier to follow eh!
19.01.2022 Folks at the Force Science Institute once again reinforcing that a delay in interviewing Officers after critical incidents leads to better memory recall.
17.01.2022 Having long been an advocate of the Force Science Institute, last year I attended their Realistic De-Escalation Instructor course in California. In this article they probe the American Association for Emergency Psychiatry's "10 domains of de-escalation" You will be please to know that at CERT we have been teaching these principles for over 10 years!... https://www.forcescience.org/2020//realistic-de-escalation/
16.01.2022 Redesigning our training methodology to suit the 'new normal' of limited physical contact has resulted in the purchase of a new handcuff training dummy - 'Cuff-Man'. Watch this space for some videos of him in action! However, Cuff-Man is not a very original name eh! Any name suggestions???
15.01.2022 Blessed are the coffee roasters, for they shall inherit the earth (I’m sure I read that somewhere...) 7 South Coffee from Kintamani, Bali Simple maths: 5kg /40g per shot = 125 coffees / 3 per day = only 41 days!
15.01.2022 Good work guys! Body-worn cameras are a great addition. They are there to help keep you safe and ensure everything is done in a professional manner (on both sides!)
11.01.2022 Continuing education is the key to keeping CERT instructors at the forefront of staff safety training. Really happy to have sucessfully completed the Realistic De-escalation Instructor Course. Force Science Institute is recognised as the world leader in de-escalation. They are dedicated to the stydy of human dynamics in high stress, rapidly unfolding force encounters.... www.forcescience.org
10.01.2022 Would you like some PEPPER with your meal? During the last 22 Defensive Tactics refresher courses taken by CERT Australia, every Authorised Officer got the opportunity to use live OC spray (usually on a tree!). Great way to use up expired OC spray, great way to get AO's used to the real stuff.... Now, old muggins here has to safely dispose of the empties...
10.01.2022 OC spray is nothing said nobody, ever! Well done to the two DELWP staff who volunteered for primary exposure to OC during their training course. A great learning experience for all. CERT conducts realistic Defensive Tactics training for a growing number of State agencies in Victoria and around Australia.
08.01.2022 Chances of falling asleep in a CERT presentation = 0 CERT Group CEO, Brad Dannefaerd about to perform the Australian National Anthem at a conference! (spoiler alert....he can't sing!) Seriously folks, CERT is often asked to present at conferences. In this case, the Environmental Health Association, WA conference asked us to present a 4hr Masterclass where we got a lot more interactive with the group.... It all went down well except Brad forgot the words to the second verse of the National Anthem...but does anyone know them?
08.01.2022 CERT Australia training Fishery Officers from Queensland Boating & Fisheries Patrol in Townsville. Safely engaging with vehicles and the occupants is a must-have skill for enforcement officers. Like other enforcement skills, its a whole lot of little things done well that leads to a safe engagement.
07.01.2022 The final part of a major study by the Force Science Insititute on effective training. They strongly advocate for integrated, scenario based 'open' training where Officers consider a widerange of factors in their decision making. Better training = better decisions
06.01.2022 Deep, wide stance ....check Hands up....check Looking at the subject...check Medical grade nitrile gloves, P2 mask & safety glasses....check... Slight change to the uniform standards this week guys...
04.01.2022 We are normally ‘clean freaks’ here at CERT but we’ve taken this to a whole new level now. *all training equipment cleaned & disinfected immediately following today’s DT course
02.01.2022 Hmmm what to do on a Sunday..... Um...I'm cleaning them ok!
01.01.2022 This is our 'new' Gewehr 98, which we use for our Firearms Awareness & Safe handling course to show students how this type of rifle works. *CERT Australia has a VIC corporate firearms licence to conduct this training. Geoff has had it professionally machined by a gunsmith to reveal the inner workings of the trigger mechanism, bolt, firing pin, chamber, and rifling. Pretty cool huh! Ours is a post WW2 conversion to .30’06 from something like a 7.6mm, they’re rechambered orig...inal barrels but they’re slightly tighter than .30cal. Does your firearms training provider have training aids this cool?...
01.01.2022 *social distancing activity #1 .... building our online learning platform
