23.01.2022 Do you have a Gizmo, SUP, Kayak or Canoe in your shed at home? If you are heading to anywhere along the Turquoise Coast make sure to stack it (or them) on the r...oof-rack, in your trailer or find any other means at your disposal to get it here. The west coast is known for its summertime windy afternoons, but here, there are enough tucked away bays and places that will ensure that your paddles get wet and that you can stay dry (as long as your paddling ability allows it) On a good day you might want to head out to Boullanger island for a look see. On a wild and windy day, you might like to paddle the Hill river estuary (4WD access only). On a medium day, try the Sandy Cape recreation park or head out to some of the sheltered bays on the way to North Head. You could go up to Green Head or Leeman to check out the Leeman anchorage or Lipfert and Milligan`s islands north of Green Head. 09.01.2022 I spend my working weekdays with a view of the main road in the middle of the Jurien Bay CBD. For months now, the traffic has been so busy. There are cars with ...caravans attached, shiny new off-road machines towing camper trailers, big boats, small tinnies, motor-homes and all manner of camping paraphernalia on roof racks and trailers. Sometimes just getting over the road to my favourite lunch supplier is a battle. Sometimes getting back is even worse. I spend the day trying to match visitor interests with activities and locations. At the end of each day I can feel the jealousy moving in because everyone who calls in or telephones is either on holiday or planning one. For me, all that I can look forward to is the weekend. The queen of my household usually has other ideas other than me fuelling up the Toyota and attempting to do all the things that I offer to visitors at work. Poor me! I am only telling you this, because this week is Mental Health awareness week and my sanity seems to be slipping further than it normally does towards the end of the working week. I have had slipping sanity before but that was due to raising a bunch of kids. This time is different and yesterday I took my own advice and went for a stroll on the beach just on dark, to look for Ghost Crabs and anything else even slightly interesting. I think it worked! Hump day has come and gone and an empty wine bottle in the bin seemed to have been enough medication for a good nights sleep and getting me ready to tackle the walk across the road for lunch one more time. If you feel that a case of slipping sanity is heading in your direction, just make sure to talk to your loved ones or simply take a night-time stroll on one of the many quiet beaches that we have. It worked for me! See more
