24.01.2022 #OTD back in 2015, the War Correspondents Memorial was dedicated 5 years ago. On 23 September 2015 a large crowd gathered to hear dignitaries led by the Prime Minister speak. As ever, our ongoing thanks to every Australian who donated money and contributed to the War Correspondents Memorial in #canberra. We are especially grateful to the support from the Australian War Memorial, the National Press Club of Australia and the National Library of Australia amongst many others. Here is some coverage of that day: https://www.canberratimes.com.au//war-correspondents-memo/

22.01.2022 #OTD we pause to remember the Balibo 5. 16 October 1975 saw five Australian journalists and crew murdered while carrying out their work, bringing the news to us. RIP Greg Shackleton/Gary Cunningham/Tony Stewart (Ch7, Channel 7), Malcolm Rennie/Brian Peters (Ch9 TV, Channel 9). And Roger East (ABCTV, ABC Australia) also murdered on 8 Dec 75 doing his job.... They were not just working journalists and professional crew, but employees and colleagues of many at their media outlets, and loved sons, brothers and family members to many across Australia, New Zealand and the UK. The War Correspondents Memorial in #Canberra remembers them, and those that brought us our news and continue to bring us our news. They are not forgotten. Shirley Shackleton, the widow of the late Greg Shackleton, was our special guest at the dedication of the War Correspondents Memorial. The University of New South Wales and the Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA) have analysis here, including the commemoration held in 2015 at the War Correspondents Memorial on the 40th anniversary: https://www.unsw.adfa.edu.au/school-of-humanities-//balibo May they rest in peace.

14.01.2022 Today we remember all who died or suffered for Australia's cause in war. Here is their spirit, in the heart of the land they loved; and here we guard the record which they themselves made. C.E.W (Charles) Bean 1948. Our stories of war, in word, image, film, art and spoken word will always matter. Stories of war are part of who we - all of us - are. ... We give thanks to the families of those who died or suffered in all wars, and for many the suffering does not end. This includes those killed or injured in current and recent conflicts. We remember all Australians overseas on deployment on this day, we are thankful. Lest we forget.

13.01.2022 We found this article on Australian journalist and former War Correspondent Hamish McDonald to be a fascinating read. An interesting and varied career. https://www.gq.com.au//ne/daff2be01386885516a328c9cf40b51e

01.01.2022 Tomorrow we will pause to pay remembrance to the end of World War 1 on 11 November 1918. Beyond that, we remember those who died or suffered for Australia's cause in all wars and armed conflicts. We will remember them. https://www.awm.gov.au/commemoration/remembrance-day
