25.01.2022 With the cooler weather kicking in, its a good time to think about preventable residential fires. Something to think about if you have a chimney - chimney fires happen TWICE AS OFTEN in VIC-North East! Give yours a yearly clean, set up your screen then share this so your friends get what we mean. That rhymes ;)

22.01.2022 On Tuesday the Rehab Unit assisted at an incident where a truck loaded with hay caught on fire.

21.01.2022 Today members of the Headquarters Brigade undertook their annual Health Monitoring and Rehab Training. It was also a great opportunity for members to check out the new truck.

20.01.2022 With the cooler weather kicking in, its a good time to think about preventable residential fires. Gas heaters feel great this time of year. They work well if theyre serviced every two years and used with care. Be patient with your clothes on the rack, and share this post to remind your friends.

20.01.2022 Well done team.

19.01.2022 Over the last 4 weeks the District 24 Headquarters Brigade has undertaken almost 600 Health Monitoring checks in relation to the North East Bushfires. This includes: - 86 army reservists at Latchford Barracks last week. ... - Over 60 members of the police force in the last 2 days, who were deployed to the region to assist with the fire effort. And tomorrow we will undertake a further 20 health checks on Department of Agriculture staff also deployed to assist with the fire effort. Well done to all those brigade members involved in this mammoth effort.

18.01.2022 District 24 Headquarters Brigades new Health Monitoring and Rehab Truck, had only just been put into service late this afternoon when it had its first call out to a factory fire in Wodonga early this evening. Well done to the Rehab Team for the baptism by fire.

15.01.2022 District 24 Headquarters Brigade members have been busy these last 2 weeks supporting our firefighters who have been out there on the front line doing an amazing job saving lives and property. These photos show just some of the many roles that our members have been involved in during these fires.

13.01.2022 People planning to visit forested areas in the north east this weekend are being urged to check their travel plans and to stay informed about going fires. For information on all bushfires download the Vic Emergency app or visit www.emergency.vic.gov.au, tune into ABC radio or other emergency broadcasters including commercial and community radio stations or Sky TV or by phoning the VicEmergency Hotline on 1800 226 226.

13.01.2022 Please heed the warning about staying away from the area. Last night we were very disappointed to see the roads leading to the fire choked with "rubber neckers" and even today there is a steady stream of cars trying to see the fire ground. You are a major inconvenience to the fire fighting and blacking out efforts.

12.01.2022 Well done to those members who were able to turn out today to cool down members of the Rutherglen Brigade after they spent the morning putting out a haystack fire in 43C heat.

09.01.2022 Abbeyard Yarrarbula fire update Friday, 24 January The 102,213-hectare Abbeyard-Yarrarbula fire has received up to 58mm of rain on parts of the fireground dur...ing the past four days, which has reduced fire activity and smoke in the area. The rainfall was a welcome relief for firefighters, however, there’s still a lot of work to do before we can contain this fire. Crews will be working this weekend to construct containment lines, and to directly attack any hot spots detected through thermal imaging and aerial observation. The remote location of this fire is proving to be challenging for our crews and we fully expect it to burn for a number of weeks as crews work hard to contain it. More than 300 firefighters and incident management team staff from Victoria, Canada and the US are currently deployed to this fire. Parts of the Alpine National Park remain closed, including the Mount Buffalo National Park and forest users need to check road access prior to planning their trip. There are currently no communities under threat from this fire, and no direct impact to townships. Towns like Oxley, Milawa, Myrtleford, Bright, Porepunkah, Harrietville, Mt Hotham, Dinner Plain and Falls Creek are open for business and looking forward to welcoming visitors this Australia Day weekend. Thanks to all the agencies which continue to support this response, specifically the local CFA volunteers, communities, contractors and our international counterparts who have greatly assisted us. We recommend that visitors refer to www.parkweb.vic.gov.au/ and www.traffic.vicroads.vic.gov.au for the most up to date information about the closures. 09.01.2022 Congratulations to brigade member Jim Bates on being awarded his 35 years service medal at the brigades December meeting.

09.01.2022 VALE: Neville Frichot Neville, only joined the District 24 Headquarters Brigade in 2019, but his 55 years of service to the CFA was exceptional. Our deepest sympathy and condolences to Lyn and family.... R.I.P

08.01.2022 DONT BE THAT IDIOT! Whether you are in the existing highlighted fire danger area or not you should realise that for today and tomorrow the danger from bushfires is very very real. A fire could start anywhere at any time and with the weather conditions today and especially tomorrow it will be unstoppable. There are not enough fire trucks to come and save you or your house in these conditions.... Even a grass fire will burn down houses, destroy power supplies, block roads and kill people. They move a lot faster than forest fires. Invoke your fire plans now. Fill your vehicles with fuel Ensure that you have plenty of cash on you. If you are in a high risk area get out now Emergency services have enough to deal with other than risking their own lives to try and save some idiots who wont listen to the warnings. DONT BE THAT IDIOT!

07.01.2022 At this months meeting several members were presented with their Years Of Services Awards. Congratulations to Mark, Greg, Sue and Mick.

06.01.2022 With the cooler weather kicking in, lots of us are thinking about heading to warmer places. Going on holiday also means we should ensure our homes will be there when we get back. Share this with your neighbours, and work together to keep safe.

06.01.2022 Tonight we said goodbye to brigade member Rod "Rocket" Weir in the most spectacular way. Rods last wish was to have his ashes fired into the sky over the Hume Weir via fireworks. Each firework carried 28gm of his ashes. The display was not only very dramatic but also very moving. This is just a small sample of the incredible display we had the honour to witnessed.

06.01.2022 I’m Jason Heffernan and I’m incredibly honoured to be the new Chief Officer of CFA. At the end of my first week, this is my message to all CFA members. I’m looking forward to working with you and building a strong CFA for the future.
