23.01.2022 To all you CFA mums. The ones who leave home, get on a fire truck and attend emergencies- you are amazing and bring skills to the group that blokes never will. And the mums who stay at home when dad/sons/daughters get on the truck - your contribution is also amazing. We love and treasure you all!

23.01.2022 For all you Lovers in Birre.

23.01.2022 Giving accurate location information when you call 000 can make a huge difference to the time it takes for emergency services to get to you. "Emergency +" is an app for your phone that gives you an address if you are unsure where you are, and at the touch of a button on your screen, allows you to call 000, SES or the police ( non urgent calls). Make it easier for us to get to you faster by giving accurate location information. ... It could save a life. See more

22.01.2022 Both Birregurra appliances turned out to a chimney fire last night and only just got up the driveway.Remember when you plant those lovely bare rooted trees over the next few weeks that they will grow! Plan for this and get the tape measure out. Labels will tell you how wide your trees will grow, then add 10%. If we cant fit, we cant fight!

21.01.2022 Fire danger period lifted as of April 27. Dont forget Fridays and Saturdays are designated days to burn anything in town boundaries, and register your burn on 1800 668511 so a big red truck doesnt turn up!

21.01.2022 BoM has issued a warning that heavy rainfall may lead to flash flooding. Drivers are urged to not attempt to travel through flooded roads and report emergency issues via 000.

21.01.2022 Birregurra volunteers at it again yesterday. An accidental ignition in a paddock started a grassfire to the north of the railway line. A nicely handled job run by our youngest member! Thanks again to Irrewarra and Colac brigades for their assistance.

21.01.2022 Please take notice to avoid the Brigade being called out to your place !!

20.01.2022 With a few days rain predicted will you be using your clothes dryer? On average, there are 3,000 house fires in Victoria. Most could be prevented by taking simple precautions. Prevent fires in your home ... Clean the lint filter in your dryer (and continue to do this after every use) For more info: http://bit.ly/2ouulM8

19.01.2022 With a bit of warm weather today we had a busy afternoon. We had our first call to an out of control grass and scrub fire on the towns edge. Lucky we where able to bring under control quickly. Then while committed on the first fire we had another call to a shed fire in Birregurra. A massive thanks to our supporting brigades Colac and Irrewarra for their help.

18.01.2022 What’s it like to be a CFA Captain? The Captain from Wye river explains what it means to him

18.01.2022 A record 51 aircraft will hit Victorian skies to help fight fires and keep communities safe this summer season. The 2020-21 aircraft fleet includes a mix of water bombing aircraft, air supervision and air intelligence-gathering aircraft. Two Large Air Tankers, which can carry up to 15,000 litres of water, foam or retardant, and two 7500-litre Aircranes, will contribute to the 51 aircraft in the core-fleet and provide essential support to other aircraft across the state.

17.01.2022 IMPORTANT UPDATE: This Wednesday 1 July is set to be an historical date for Victorias Fire Services. The State of Victoria will see an amalgamation of all Officers, Firefighters and employees of the MFB (Melbourne Metropolitan Fire Brigade) and all Career Officers, Firefighters and some other paid employees of the CFA (Country Fire Authority). The new organisation will be known as Fire Rescue Victoria. All current CFA Volunteers will remain with the CFA which will revert to ...being a volunteer fire service. Importantly, this does not mean any change to CFA Birregurra. We remain 100% volunteer run, and committed to our community. We are always reliant on support from other Brigades to respond to incidents. Regardless whether we are paid or unpaid, volunteer or career, CFA or FRV, the service to the community is our highest priority and we will continue to provide the community with the service you have grown to know and rely on in your time of need. Whether that be a response to a house fire, bush fire, motor vehicle accident, hazardous materials incident, search and rescue the firefighters at CFA Birregurra will be here for the community when called upon.

16.01.2022 We had Santa in the park tonight. Kids had a great time Well done Santa and everyone for coming out on such a nice night. Merry Xmas

15.01.2022 Ambulance Victoria and the Bureau of Meteorology have released a statement that the next few weeks will have a high pollen count with the potential of thunderstorm asthma. Please prepare for the predicted storms, carry your medication and stay indoors.

15.01.2022 Fire Action Week, 19 to 25 October, is Victoria’s annual fire planning and preparation awareness week. Fire Action Week is a time to increase your understanding of the fire risk where you live, prepare your property, and talk to your loved ones about what you’ll do to stay safe from fire. Making informed decisions is vital to your safety during a fire. Now is the best time to understand your fire risk and get prepared.... Restrictions are in place across Victoria due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. To find out more about what restrictions apply in your area including provision for those who’ve received a Fire Prevention Notice visit https://coronavirus.vic.gov.au/. Reducing the vegetation around your home is one of the most important things you can do to keep your home safe in a bushfire. You need to register any burning off of cleared grass, weeds or undergrowth. You can do this online at https://firepermits.vic.gov.au from 31 October. This week, talk to your family, friends and neighbours about the fire risk where you live and make plans for what you’ll do on hot, dry, windy days.

15.01.2022 Your elderly loved one, neighbour or friend may need extra help on hot days. People over 65 are vulnerable to heat illness. Make sure you check on them before it gets hot ask if they have air conditioning or a fan to keep cool or if they need help running errands. You could save a life by reaching out. Find #SurviveTheHeat tips here: betterhealth.vic.gov.au/heat

14.01.2022 Beautiful weather forecast + Plenty of grass = Hay season : Ensure hay is fully cured before baling... 13.01.2022 Birregurras newest CFA recruit?

13.01.2022 Great article on the youngest member of our brigade. Well done Danny

12.01.2022 Today the 29/04/2020 at 5.40pm the Birregurra fire brigade will be sounding our sirens four times to honour our fallen colleagues in the police force. This will be exactly one week after the tragic car accident in Kew. Please listen out if you can and spare a moment to pay your respects.

12.01.2022 What a big 24 hours it has been. Yesterday at approximately 3.30 we got a call up to support Winchelsea with a grass fire started by lightning. Our brigade was there for 3 hours ensuring it was out and safe. Then at 5.30am this morning we got the call for a fire in the bush at Barwon Downs started by lightning the previous night. This fire took a bit more to get under control with members there for over 12 hours. ... It was a great effort by all local brigades to bring both fires under control.

11.01.2022 The Fire Danger Rating tells you how dangerous a fire would be if one started. It helps you to know when conditions are dangerous enough to put your bushfire su...rvival plan in to action. Tomorrow, Monday 30th December 2019 is rated as EXTREME! What does this mean? > Expect extremely hot, dry and windy conditions. > If a fire starts and takes hold, it will be uncontrollable, unpredictable and fast moving. Spot fires will start, move quickly and come from many directions. > Homes that are situated and constructed or modified to withstand a bushfire, that are well prepared and actively defended, may provide safety. > You must be physically and mentally prepared to defend in these conditions. What should I do? > Consider staying with your property only if you are prepared to the highest level. This means your home needs to be situated and constructed or modified to withstand a bushfire, you are well prepared and you can actively defend your home if a fire starts > If you are not prepared to the highest level, leaving high risk bushfire areas early in the day is your safest option > Be aware of local conditions and seek information by listening to your emergency broadcasters, go to cfa.vic.gov.au or call the VicEmergency Hotline on 1800 226 226

11.01.2022 Yesterday a tanker and a crew set off to help battle the Mt Mercer Fire. Well done to all crews involved for being so quick to respond to the call for extra help.

11.01.2022 Please have a fire plan in place, the best option would be to leave early. Houses can be replaced but lives can not !!

11.01.2022 Today we had a crew go to a road side burn off to help out Derrinallum Fire Brigade. It was a great experience for some of our new recruits.

11.01.2022 Did you know you cant smell smoke when youre asleep? All smoke alarms in your home should be interconnected - this means that no matter where a fire starts - all alarms will sound.

11.01.2022 With Covid-19 spreading across our nation, I want to assure our community that the Birregurra Fire Brigade remains committed to responding to any emergency. We will be ceasing all training and meetings until further notice as directed by the Chief Officer to maintain social distancing. We are fortunate to have very experienced members and training is fully up to date, so this will not affect our capabilities when responding to emergencies. Please stay safe and follow all gu...idelines as per government directions. We will get through this working together as one.

10.01.2022 This year things are very different for the Good Friday appeal if you can support it this year click this link for a virtual tin shake https://fundraising.virtualtinshake.com/birregurra

10.01.2022 Forest Fire Management Victoria has closed the Great Otway National Park and Otway Forest Park until further notice during todays extreme fire danger warning. ...Mount Gellibrand weather station has measured temperatures of 39 degrees and gusts of more than 80kmh today, with conditions forecast to worsen. FFMVic has warned locals and residents to be diligent in reducing fire risk. Were expecting extremely hot, dry and windy conditions. If a fire starts and takes hold, it can be uncontrollable, unpredictable and fast moving," FFMVics Andrew Morrow said. A Total Fire Ban is in place for the South West, making it illegal to light any fires.

10.01.2022 TFB day tomorrow in our area.

10.01.2022 Media conference from State Control Centre Melbourne: Lisa Neville, Minister for Police and Emergency Service Andrew Crisp, Emergency Management Commissioner Kevin Parkyn, Senior Forecaster Bureau of Meteorology Dr Angie Bone, Acting Chief Health Officer

10.01.2022 Yesterday Birregurra CFA and other brigades were called to a number of out-of-control burn-offs If you're using the great weather to clean-up your property for fire season, make sure you conduct your burn-off safely. A burn-off, if not extinguished properly can re-ignite days after the original burn.... Keep your burn-off safe and legal: Check fire restrictions with your local council and register your burn on 1800 668 511 Check and monitor weather conditions particularly wind To avoid unnecessary calls to emergency services, notify your neighbours beforehand Leave a three metre fire break, free from flammable materials around the burn Have sufficient equipment and water to stop the fire spreading Never leave a burn-off unattended stay for its entire duration If your burn-off gets out of control, call ‘000’ immediately

08.01.2022 Dont forget to test your smoke alarms.

08.01.2022 Tonight we did a training session, it was search and rescue with potential hazmat at a local farming facility. Our members were in full BA which is a breathing apparatus. It was great to get back into training to keep everyone updated and safe.

08.01.2022 Yesterday was a big day for Birregurra CFA members. Just after lunchtime we were called to a tractor fire in Winchelsea, after it was brought under control we headed back to the station to clean up. We then heard of a burn off that had gotten out of control and got the page to head out again. When arrived on scene we realised it had now traveled into the bush which made it harder to fight. With many brigades and all hands on deck it was brought under under control. An amazing effort by all. This is a reminder that even though we have had lots of rain fires still happen and can get out of control fast. Have a look at our last post for some tips on how to keep burn offs as safe as possible.

07.01.2022 DAYLIGHT SAVINGS REMINDER Don’t forget tonight we will turn our clocks forward by one hour. As you turn your clock's forward remember to test your smoke alarm by pressing the test button, check they are in clean and working condition. Replace the battery or the whole unit if it is more than 10 years old" for more information head to; https://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/plan-prepare/fires-in-the-home

07.01.2022 Power line arcing in main street. Access to shops still ok, but road is blocked. Powercor on site.

05.01.2022 Cleaning the station CFA style....

05.01.2022 When was the last time you cleaned out the crumbs in your toaster? Did you know Cooking in the kitchen is the single largest cause of fires in the home.

04.01.2022 Strike Team 0602 was called around 10 pm last night to head to the Nelson fires first thing this morning along with one of our tankers and other local trucks. We already have another 2 members on strike teams today, helping in anyway we can.

04.01.2022 Please note tomorrow is a total fire ban day

03.01.2022 Yesterday two of our members collected hay from local farmers for a hay run being organised in our area. This hay will be going to the farmers in need that have been affected by fires. Its been great to see so many people digging deep to help out in true Aussie spirit. If you have any hay that you would like to donate please contact us and we can get you the information for local runs.

02.01.2022 Just a reminder. Whilst you will see some smoke in the area please know that restrictions have NOT been lifted. The smoke you will see should only be from those who have been issued permits to burn by the CFA, traditionally farmers for stubble burns. Now is not the time to be burning off without a permit. We will post on here when restrictions are lifted.

02.01.2022 At 5.40 we remembered the police officers who tragically lost their lives last week. #werememberthem #standtogether

02.01.2022 Planning on doing a burn off? Local laws on burn-offs can apply year-round. Check with your local council before lighting up! Before burning off: Check and follow local regulations or laws set down by CFA or your local council... Notify neighbours at least two hours before starting the burn Notify the Emergency Services Telecommunications Authority (ESTA) on 1800 668 511 Check the weather forecast for the day of the burn and a few days afterwards Check the fuel moisture conditions Establish a fire break of no less than three metres cleared of all flammable material Make sure there are enough people to monitor, contain and extinguish the burn safely and effectively. Register your burn-off All burn-offs should be registered with ESTA on 1800 668 511. Please provide the following information about your burn-off when registering: Location Date and expected start and finish times Estimated size What you intend to burn Unregistered burn-offs can cause brigades to be called out unnecessarily.

01.01.2022 Today’s training was drip torch maintenance/usage, and fire behaviour. We were lucky to have 10 acres of an old plantation to use. This fire will be going into next week and is being monitored. This planned burn will help reduce fire risk for summer.

01.01.2022 It’s starting to warm up. Some areas are really starting to dry out. Keep an eye out as you use any equipment (ride on mowers, farm equipment) & call 000 if anything occurs.
