10.01.2022 Think about the Fire Danger Rating this weekend and know what area your in.

09.01.2022 Everyone in Victoria who lives near dense forest, bush, grassland or the coast needs to prepare their property for bushfire. Below are some tips from Captain Koala on preparing your property: Roof gutters - Keep gutters and roof areas clear of leaf litter. Leaf litter in guttering is a ember ignition point. Keep grass short - Keep grass cut to less than 10cm. Fire can ignite and travel quickly through long grass. Mowing and slashing can greatly reduce fine fuel levels.... Leaves and Twigs - Get rid of dry grass, leaves, twigs and loose bark. Less fuel = less fire. Prune shrubs -Prune lower branches of shrubs to separate from surface fuels underneath. Prune shrubs well away from branches of mature trees. Cut back branches - Cut back overhanging tree branches close to property no branches in 10m space. For more information on preparing your property please see here: https://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/plan-prepare #CKDoesSummerPreparation #LessFuelEqualsLessFire #PlanAndPrepare #CleanUpBeforeABushfireDoes

07.01.2022 We have a few haunted house tips to have your property looking spootakular and most importantly safe this bushfire season... Remove flammable items from nea...r your home like coffins, crucifixes and broomsticks. Clear away overhanging branches and cobwebs. Keep your lawn mowed but watch out for zombies in the long grass. Seal up your windows to keep away the bats. Trim back shrubs, you never know what gremlins could be hiding in there! Never leave your jack-o-lantern candle unattended. And remember to always check restrictions before lighting your cauldron this summer.

06.01.2022 Are you preparing your property for the coming fire season? Do you have rows of Conifers around your property, house or maybe lining your driveway? Have you given a thought about their flammability and what happens to them when they catch fire?... Conifers are really good at being a wind break but can be explosive in a fire. This is due to the high oil content in the foliage and the amount of dry and dead leaf litter that accumulates up the centre of them. If your driveway is lined with Conifers you may be at risk of being trapped on your property or if you have them around your house you could be completely surrounded by an intense wall of fire and embers, costing you your house and even your life. To make your Conifer row safer, keep the tree clear of foliage at least 1.5-2m from the ground and keep grass around them short. This will help prevent a fire from climbing into the dry foliage and turning your Conifers into a row of matches. And please remember: if you are planning on removing the trees altogether, please check with your local council regarding any permit requirements. (video courtesy of Mount Macedon CFA)
