25.01.2022 A short update for our District 20 Members with the return of Stage 3 restrictions.

24.01.2022 You should never wait to receive an official warning before you leave. Fires can start quickly and threaten homes and lives within minutes. Warnings are issued when a fire has started and you need to take action.... Make sure you understand the three levels of warnings and what they mean. You may have noticed some changes to the icons on the VicEmergency website. Victoria has adopted the Australian Warning System - a new national approach to information and warnings during emergencies and natural disasters like fire, flood, severe weather, extreme heat and cyclones. Keep an eye out for the new icons on the VicEmergency app! https://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/warnings-restrict/about-warnings

24.01.2022 TOTAL FIRE BAN Today, Saturday 05/12/2020 has been declared a day of Total Fire Ban for Mallee and Wimmera. No fire can be lit in the open air or be allowed to remain alight in the open air between 00:01 on Sat, 5 Dec 2020 and 23:59 on Sat, 5 Dec 2020.... 24.01.2022 If you are planning on burning off to clean up your property, prior to the Fire Danger Period, make sure you check your local council bylaws, and register your burn off on 1800668511. By registering your burn off, it means our brigades won’t be called unnecessarily #registeryourburnoff #burnoffnotificationline #savesunecessarycallouts #cfadistrict20

24.01.2022 Private burn-offs The best way to defend homes is to prepare before the fire danger period begins, including cleaning up gardens, gutters and removing flammable waste from yards. As well as registering burn-offs, there are some basic rules to follow such as checking the weather conditions, monitoring the wind, and following local council laws and regulation.... Property owners have legal obligations when burning off. Failing to comply with local council by-laws and state legislation can lead to a fine. For more information about burning off, go to cfa.vic.gov.au/burnoff Burn-offs can be registered by calling ESTA on 1800 668 511 or emailing [email protected]. If you light a fire without a permit during the Fire Danger Period, you could be charged with breaking the law. Penalties may include a fine up to $19,342 and/or up to 12 months imprisonment.

18.01.2022 Information & Briefing Sessions CFA District 20 will be facilitating a number of online information sessions and tutorials over the coming months, in order to support our operational preparedness for the upcoming summer with consideration to current COVID-19 public health restrictions. The health and safety of our people is our number one priority, particularly concerning the prevention of COVID-19 infection and the inherent risks of operational firefighting. Therefore... it is critical that we offer this virtual opportunity via the application of MS Teams, as an alternative to the way we have previously undertaken our pre-summer activities. We fully appreciate that this experience will be different and for some more challenging; however the necessity to ensure our objectives are achieved in terms of enhancing the awareness and understanding of supporting operational doctrine and procedures; along with the application of critical decision making processes; is essential to ensure safe and effective firefighting operations. As such, we will offer as much support as possible to enable our members to actively engage in these opportunities; with a particular focus on the access and use of MS Teams as our preferred delivery platform. We have just emaild out the following flyer outlining the schedule of events, along with some ‘cheat sheets’ to help get you started with MS Teams. As always, our district staff are there to assist should you have any issues with this please contact a member of your catchment team in the first instance. We expect that this approach will be quite new to a lot of people, as such we have dedicated the first session to using and navigating MS Teams along with a general introduction to some of the staff within the District 20 team. While we expect that those who perform the roles of crew leader and above will have a particular interest in these sessions; we are deliberately offering this to our broader membership as enhanced knowledge and understanding gained throughout, will seek to better develop our capability and resilience in dealing with emergency incidents. A tremendous amount of work has gone into preparing this program; and we are really excited to be able to offer this opportunity to our members during these challenging times. Similar formats have been utilised in other District across CFA with great success; and we too look forward to this being an effective tool that we can seek to build upon and better support our member engagement into the future. In doing so, we also seek your thoughts and feedback on the sessions and program overall this can be done via the feedback forms that are made available throughout. Thankyou for your ongoing support and commitment; and we look forward to offering this opportunity to you all.
