25.01.2022 As we near the end of summer, we have some great news. After burning over 1.5 million hectares in Victoria, there are no significant going fires across Victori...a, with the Snowy complex fire being declared contained today. Thank you to all the hard work by all the different agencies and volunteers over this period. Photo by Neal Herbert.

23.01.2022 With the current bushfire crisis, our brigade has fielded numerous enquiries about fundraising and which charity to donate to such as St Vinnies, Blaze Aid, Gip...psland Emergency Relief Fund etc. All worthy causes who are doing great work in the bushfire affected areas. However if you haven't donated as yet and you still wish too, you might consider donating to your local CFA. You can nominate your local brigade and the money will go to that Brigade to help them to better service their community and to purchase new equipment or you can donate to the CFA public fund. 19.01.2022 The Australia Day long weekend presents a wonderful opportunity to support Regional Victoria. There are many locations that have not been affected by bushfires ...and are keen to welcome visitors. 15.01.2022 Many people have downloaded the Vic Emergency app which is great as people need to stay informed. However, this is also starting to cause problems. The Vic emer...gency app releases incident detaild as our CFA volunteers are paged. This means that people are being notified of an incident at about the same time we are. Recent incidents have attracted a lot of sightseers in their cars, on motorbikes or even on foot to see where the incident is and what is going on. We have had people try and stop CFA volunteers to find out what is going on whilst they are on their way and during incidents. Recently we had cars blocking the roads for trucks trying to get to the incident. Others even followed the trucks to see where they were going. We encourage as many people as possible to use the VicEmergency app to keep them informed, but please be aware that using the information to go and see what is going on can affect the CFA in performing our duty as quickly and efficiently as possible. There is the potential danger for an accident to happen when community vehicles get in the way of emergency vehicles.
15.01.2022 Thank you to District 04 Volunteers from the Community. The state of Victoria indeed most of the East Coast experience a busy 2019/2020 fire season. And one thing that was heard loud and clear was the community wanted to thank CFA members for the time and effort they gave to protecting the life and property of our communities. These Thank you cards were taken to the Heywood Wood Wine and Roses Festival and other places, where the community lined up for the opportunity to lea...ve a message of thanks.. We would like all brigades and members to accept this token of appreciation from the community. The thankyou card project hit a bump in the road as the intention was to deliver these at AGMs in April May. However things have changed greatly in that time so another strategy has had to be used. The framed cards have been presented to some of our Captains around the District and the rest will be delivered over the coming month. We have ask that the Captains present them to their members and pass on the thanks of the community to everyone. SW Volunteer Sustainability team member Victoria Pullen would like to acknowledge the Casterton News for their support and the contribution of photographs for this project See more

12.01.2022 Firefighting crews have continued working to strengthen control lines including burning out small pockets of unburnt area around the Lake Surprise Crater of the... Budj Bim National Park. (Formally Mt Eccles) Assessments are currently being done to ensure all hazardous trees are identified and treated on the control lines as well as the road and walking track networks. This will allow crews to work safely on the fire edge where they will be using hose lines and water to fully extinguish all fire and embers within 30 meters of the fire edge. The fire has burnt cleanly through the Budj Bim park and there are no significant pockets of unburnt fuel within the control lines which are expected to pose any problems to firefighters in the coming days or weeks. As soon as it is safe to do so, wildlife assessments will be conducted throughout the Park. Since there has been no significant crown scorch it is expected that the impact on the koala population may not be as bad as first thought. Where there were no hard control lines built the fire has burnt into swamps and water bodies which also assisted in minimising the mechanical footprint used on the fire. The World Heritage listing of the Budj Bim park has been at front of mind in the management of this fire and the Traditional Owners have been consulted regularly. The Incident Control Centre will be utilising Aerial Information Gathering (AIG) helicopters and Infrared Line Scans as required to continue to monitor hot spots. As these are identified they will be assessed and treated, as required, to ensure no new fires are started. Rehabilitation assessments for the control lines, roads and walking tracks are currently being done with plans being developed to commence rehabilitation as soon as it is safe and prudent to do so. There will be crews on this fire, either actively firefighting or patrolling for at least the next 2 to 4 weeks or until there is significant rainfall.

07.01.2022 Summer may be over, but the risk of fires isn't. In the colder months house fires are still a devastating reality, and our crews are still here to respond when you need us most. You can help us and your household by making sure you have a working smoke alarm
06.01.2022 Although this is an awesome thought and I know all emergency services appreciate the thought. As this message goes national Id like to point out that in rural ...areas there are different markers for various reasons that each states emergency services use for their own information (Hydrants, water points, home checked for deceased/survivors etc.) in times like this. There have already been direct requests from the NSW Fire and Rescue to NOT put yellow or orange ribbons on gates or letterboxes for this reason. Emergency service personnel travel well out of their own area to assist others when needed so this could also cause further confusion. I am not sure what a good alternative should be but perhaps a handmade sign with a thank you or simply have everyone to have a well practiced plan in place for the residents of each home including having as much information about fires as possible, evac kit, a plan of when/where to go etc. Info can be accessed from many links but here is a good start https://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/plan-prepare
