22.01.2022 When using your fireplace in Winter, it’s important that you follow these home fire safety tips: Always use a fire screen in front of an open fire. Keep items that can burn, such as clothes horses, at least 1m away from the heat source. Extinguish open fires before leaving home or going to sleep. Children must be supervised near open fires. Maintain a safe distance between children and heating.... Ensure ashes are cold before discarding. Only burn dry, clean wood. See more

22.01.2022 We would like to thank our dedicated volunteers for what they have done and continue to do day in and day out!

19.01.2022 Great advice from commander Luke Waterson on haystacks coming into bailing season

16.01.2022 Yay! It’s happy days at Goornong Fire Brigade! Thanks to some very generous donations the brigade was able to finally upgrade our portable uhf radios and also get supplied and fitted with in truck uhf’s! These editions will allow us to safely manage traffic at accidents and also give us the ability to communicate and work with private firefighting units in our area and grass fires. Though covid restricts us a lot we are still trying to put the donations to good use and to make sure we are best equipped to help our community that we love. Fire season will come around quickly! So we as a brigade thank you for your donations!

13.01.2022 As many of you would be aware via the media, today marks a day of change for Victoria’s fire services. In which all paid staff from CFA and the metropolitan fire brigade leave their respective organisations to form a new organisation FRV (Fire Rescue Victoria). For us at Goornong being we are 100% voulnteer we are still the same people, the same uniforms and the same trucks. We are proud to be cfa and our goal is and always will be to protect live and property in the Goornong and wider community. We wish the local Frv staff (formally bendigo Cfa staff) now frv station 73 all the best in their transition over.

12.01.2022 Today is an historic day for fire services in Victoria. Today we welcome Fire Rescue Victoria as our new fire and emergency service partner. And today, CFA beco...mes a proudly volunteer fire service. We are skilled, determined and here to serve Victorians now and into the future. We are from the community and for the community. We are CFA. #CFAVic #OurCommunityOurCFA

11.01.2022 You may see smoke in the area from this cultural burn. More information on their post! Well done DELWP Loddon Mallee

08.01.2022 We urge you to please turn your lights on when driving in low light, rain or fog! Especially in today’s fog. You maybe able to see fine but that doesn’t mean someone else will see you. We want everyone to be safe, take care!

08.01.2022 We are a bit late to the party, but yesterday was international day of rural women! We are so thankful for the wonderful rural women we have in our brigade. As you can see one of them Sara read is featured here in the photo which was taken by another one of our ladies Felicity Johnson.

07.01.2022 The brigade has responded to a fair few calls lately. Including two so far this weekend. One supporting axedale and the other in our local area today. We thank our members for continuing to get the truck out the door to help look after our community! But we also need New Members due to lots of changes in the last 12 months in our members circumstances. our active firefighter numbers have dropped putting more pressure on the ones we have. As with anything more hands make light work. So if you or someone you know are interested in joining it can be active or non operational, We have a large variety of roles and we don’t only fight fires so please contact us and we will get you onto the right people. Be apart of helping your community today!

06.01.2022 We wear our masks to the station from home, while at the station and while en route, on scene and returning from all calls. We will continue to do this as apart of our motto to protect lives.

05.01.2022 The siren sounded at about 6:30pm tonight for a grass fire in goornong both tanker 1 & 2 responded with tanker1 controlling the fire quickly. Elmore had also been paged to assist but weren’t required and we thank them for their prompt response also! This is a timely reminder that fires can and will happen within the township and to make sure your property is prepared for summer. We thank our community for keeping their distance and allowing us to safely do our jobs. Anyone ...who has information regarding or witness to the fire origins please contact the local police or crime stoppers. But please refrain from comments regarding the job of a negative nature they will be deleted. We thank our crews for their great effort once again!

03.01.2022 Some home fire safety tips when working from home!

03.01.2022 We always try and post positive and helpful information on our page. We also haven’t made a post in a little as we have all been busy preparing for the fire season ourselves. But it was really disappointing to go down to one of our local camping spots and find people had left their fire still hot and gone home. They had also left an un burnt log placed on top in the hot coals. Today’s weather is hot with expected high winds and storms tonight. This could have caused it to spread to grasslands around the camping area and into farms. We plea with you to make sure you extinguish your campfires with water and make sure they are cold before leaving!

03.01.2022 It’s really great to see people over the past few months in our community have been doing a great job in informing people of their burns and logging them with esta it as we call them Vicfire. It makes us happy to know that the message is getting out and people are being considerate of their neighbours and community! So our brigade thanks the goornong community for assisting with that. It also means that we don’t get paged to calls that are false alarms being it’s just a pile ...burn or paddock burn. Make sure you follow council bylaws and When you need to log your burn ring 1800 668 511 -1st Lt jamie francis.

02.01.2022 Have you got a Fire Escape plan? Grab your family or your housemate and draw up an escape plan. It could save your life. As part of your plan, all family and housemates should know: The two quickest ways out of every room;... How they will exit from upstairs if your home has a second storey; An agreed-upon meeting place outside, such as the letterbox; How they will call Triple Zero (000); Download and print a home fire escape plan template to help create your plan www.cfa.vic.gov.au/docume//98971/escape_plan_template.pdf/
