21.01.2022 SOLAR PANEL FIRES | We are urging residents with solar panels to remain aware and vigilant after an influx in solar panel fires this year. This footage was obta...ined from a neighbour in Glenwood who called Triple Zero (000) after noticing a house nearby had solar panels alight. This was one of six solar panel fires that Fire and Rescue NSW attended in the past week alone. These statistics show solar panel fires are up 20 percent compared to last year and continuing to rise. Isolation switches appear to be causing almost half of solar panel fires, so it is vital to ensure solar panels are installed and regularly maintained by a professional and that systems comply with Australian Standards. Always do a licence check with NSW Fair Trading before any installation and wiring takes place. This can be found at https://www.fairtrading.nsw.gov.au//during-th/solar-panels. #MoreThanFire #ProtectTheIrreplaceable #PreparedForAnything

Th...e four heavy helicopters are at the Coulson airbase undergoing routine maintenance and work ready to be deployed to their summer bases in fire prone regional parts of the State. 14.01.2022 Interesting little story for everyone who has done CPR....

14.01.2022 Its been quite a busy day for our brigade, which all started off at 3am this morning. We were paged to support Beeac for the unfortunate house fire which claim...ed an elderly mans life. Both our Pumper and Pumper Tanker responded, with our Pumper remaining on scene until 5:30pm this evening. You may have seen a strange looking truck getting around town throughout the day. Fire Rescue Victoria Pumper 64 from Belmont was in town, supporting our community. This was while our Pumper remained at Beeac, which was manned by members from Torquay Fire Brigade, to allow our members to rest and remain in our local area. Pumper 64 was put in to action this afternoon when the brigade was paged to a Motor Vehicle Accident. Upon Colac FCV and Pumper 64's arrival on scene, it was discovered a vehicle had ended up down the embankment, parallel to Queens Avenue. No one was trapped and a single occupant of the vehicle was walked to a nearby ambulance and transported to hospital. Members then assisted this evening to restow and clean our Pumper, once it arrived back in station. Great effort by all involved! 05.01.2022 The Bureau has confirmed that a La Niña has formed in the tropical Pacific, with climate models suggesting it's likely to remain until at least the end of 2020.... La Niña typically brings: A wetter-than-average spring and summer to northern and eastern Australia; Cooler-than-average days and warmer-than-average nights; Increased tropical cyclone numbers; An earlier start to the monsoon and wet season; Average fire risk; and Less intense but more prolonged heatwaves across southern Australia. But every La Niña event is different. Once La Niña develops it usually finishes the following autumn, but some events have lasted 2 or 3 years. Rainfall can also vary considerably. During the last big event of 2010-2012 rainfall was above average across most of Australia (we saw Category 5 tropical cyclone Yasi devastate far north Queensland communities during this period), whereas rainfall during the La Niña event of 2008-2009 was much more patchy.
