21.01.2022 Free Waste Weekend starts tomorrow! Tips to make your visit as quick and easy as possible: 1. Drop off recyclables before the Tollbooth - to save yourself time..., make sure they are easy for you to grab and not buried under other waste. 2. Have your Glenorchy municipality ID ready to show staff. 3. Pack your trailer or car safely and split your load into waste types where possible remember green waste, white goods, metals, glass, bricks and construction rubble all have their own areas at the Landfill. (Map link below). 4. Tyres & mattresses also have their own drop-off areas and are chargeable items, please have payment ready. 5. Drivers with trailers are asked to take special care and avoid reversing where possible due to safety concerns and potential traffic delays. 6. No asbestos accepted this weekend this is for the safety of all landfill users. Illegally dumped asbestos will close the Landfill until properly treated, and culprits will be fined. 7. Please be considerate of local residents and don’t block side roads. If you are asked to move to the kerb by our staff, please do so quickly and safely. 8. Check the Jackson Street webcams before you leave home for Tollbooth traffic flow and any wind disruption: https://jacksonstlandfill.com.au/ Glenorchy Council staff will be on hand to help but please remember we can’t control the weather! Please be patient, the Landfill will be busy and the safety of visitors, vehicles and staff is our first priority. Have another question about this event? 12.01.2022 Christmas can be a busy time for children and families. Children often become overstimulated and overwhelmed. Here are some ideas for helping your toddler or pre-schooler handle overstimulation: Try to stay calm yourself. This will help your child to calm down too. Where possible change the environment. Reduce the noise and activity around your child, spend time with them near you to allow them to wind down. Help your child put into words the feelings that they’re expre...ssing through behaviour. For example, you could say, ‘I can see that you’re upset’ or ‘I can see that everything is too much right now’. Sit quietly with your child and choose a calming activity. You could read a story, lie down with your child, sing some quiet songs or just stroke your child’s back. When your child is calm, give them some time to play by themselves. Other strategies: Spread out gift giving Monitor the amount of sugar children are eating Where possible continue regular routines- encourage sleep Lower expectations- Christmas can be a fun but exhausting too! Experience making memories rather than documenting every moment with a happy snap. Choose just a couple of special moments to photograph Look into mindfulness strategies for your child. You might be able to find some that you and your child could do together. Fill your own cup- have some time out and look after yourself!! https://raisingchildren.net.au//common-co/overstimulation See more

09.01.2022 Would you believe me if I said we feed our babies up to 2000 times in the first year? Well imagine how many nappy changes there are!! Making the most of everyday experiences, activities and routines for connection and learning strengthens the neurological connections in our babies brains, especially during the early years of development.
