18.01.2022 On this day, the 15th of October in 1970, Melbourne's West Gate Bridge collapsed, claiming the life of 35 workers. The event remains the most catastrophic workp...lace disaster in Australia's history. Please join us as we remember those workers who didn't come home to their families, and reflect on how the impact of the event is still felt across Australia to this day.
16.01.2022 The collapse of Grocon shows Australia needs effective national security of payment laws to ensure workers, subcontractors and small businesses are not left carrying the can when builders and property developers go into administration or liquidation. https://cg.cfmeu.org//grocon-collapse-should-spur-national
16.01.2022 Eighteen months ago, the International Labour Organisation adopted a ground-breaking Convention, ILO C190, recognising the right of every worker to a world of work free from violence and harassment. If ratified, the Convention will place clear obligations on governments and employers to take clear and proactive steps to prevent all forms of violence and harassment at work. Throughout the 16 Days of Activism, we are asking to you sign and share our petition calling on the Fed...eral Government to ratify the Convention, and recognise every worker’s right to be free from all forms of violence and harassment at work. 13.01.2022 Great to hear Victoria will invest $5.3b on social housing construction over next 4 years. Will build homes for thousands of people, create construction jobs and boost the economy. The Federal Government needs to step up. https://www.theage.com.au//this-will-change-lives-5-3-bill
12.01.2022 Today’s video comes from Dr Gerry Ayres, Health and Safety Manager for the Vic-Tas Branch. The various workplace health and safety legislation around the country requires an employer to provide a work environment that is without risk to health and safety. Gendered violence is a workplace hazard like any other, and should be controlled just the same.... If you want better protections around violence and harassment in the workplace, sign and share our petition calling on the Federal Government to ratify the Convention, and recognise every worker’s right to be free from all forms of violence and harassment at work.

11.01.2022 Scott Morrison gets $1,623.63 in super each week. He gets $84,584.50 in super every year. He wants to freeze everyone else's super at 9.5%. For a construction labourer on the award that's $95.32.
11.01.2022 Ten percent super is already law. Scott Morrison wants to break his promise, take away the legislated increase and cheat workers out of super they have already earned. It's just more wage theft from Scott Morrison.

09.01.2022 NSW Finance Minister Damien Tudehope, writing in the AFR this week claimed that "Union extortion ransoms jobs". As an experience criminal lawyer, who has represented clients accused of very serious crimes, he should know better than to lightly throw around accusations such as extortion. Indeed, you’d hope he understands the law around these matters more clearly than his apparent understanding of how wage growth and productivity works in the construction industry. 09.01.2022 Measures in the Federal Budget aimed at encouraging businesses to take on apprentices and new workers will do nothing to stem the declining completion rates of apprenticeships and could open the door to job losses and the exploitation of younger workers. https://cg.cfmeu.org//apprentice-hiring-schemes-create-rec
07.01.2022 We have developed a flyer that provides a helpful explanation of gendered violence, who it affects and who can help stop gendered violence in the workplace. We encourage you to use the flyer and hold site meetings during the 16 Days of Activism to help stop gendered violence in the workplace. All workers have the right to be free from all forms of violence and harassment at home and at work.
04.01.2022 16 Days of Activism: a message from Royce Kupsch reminding us all that the standards we walk past are the standards we accept.
04.01.2022 How can this happen in 2020? A young construction worker killed and two others in hospital after a roof collapse at Curtin University in WA. The CFMEU sends condolences to his family, friends and workmates and hopes for a full recovery for the injured workers. The union will leave no stone unturned in ensuring a thorough investigation to establish the cause of the incident and will demand justice for the deceased and injured.... https://www.watoday.com.au//one-person-feared-dead-after-b See more
