25.01.2022 Merry Xmas from Dave Hawkins and all the crew at Queens Place!

24.01.2022 ! . We welcomed members of the Geelong construction industry including Builders, Uni...ons, Subcontractors and their employees to the foundation where a BIG cheque for over $50,000 was presented to the Barwon Health Foundation Christmas Appeal. We are just blown away by the generosity and thank Geelong’s local building and construction industry the construction unions and their members, builders, sub-contractors, individual workers and businesses who supported the extraordinary fundraising effort that raised an amazing $50,000 for children in hospital this Christmas. We share a snippet of some of the amazing organisations that kindly supported. (Video will play) We really are surrounded by the best in our local community. #BarwonHealthFoundation #BarwonHealth #BarwonHealthFoundationChristmasAppeal #Geelong

24.01.2022 On a scale of 'f*cked' to 'f*cked beyond belief' - how sh*t is this advice on how to organise workers to join their union!? I wonder which union this could have said this?

19.01.2022 A message from John Setka to our members. You should be extremely proud of what we have achieved together this year, and we thank all of you. As we come to the end of 2020, we wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. Stay safe and time to celebrate.

19.01.2022 Recently, the International Labour Organisation adopted a ground-breaking Convention, ILO C190, recognising the right of every worker across the world to a workplace free from violence and harassment. If ratified, the convention will place clear obligations on governments and employers to take steps to make this happen. Throughout our 16 Days of Activism, we will be asking to you sign and share our petition calling on the Federal Government to act on the convention, and recog...nise every worker’s right to be free from all forms of violence and harassment at work. For more information and to sign the petition: https://www.megaphone.org.au//ratify-ilo-c190-violence-and

18.01.2022 This week out at the Royal Park Tram upgrade - Fulton Hogan and YarraTrams hindered and obstructed and then proceeded to ring the police on CFMEU officials. For merely raising issues around CLEAR, health and safety issues on their occupation. It's YOUR RIGHT and the EMPLOYER'S RESPONSIBILITY to provide COMPLIANT and PROPER ameneties and facilities on construction sites - With works running 24/7 they had no sanitizer and soap in the portable toilets on site (sanitizer ...was added only whilst officials were being hindered and obstructed) - Dry cutting concrete and not watering down or monitoring levels of silica, which is exposing workers and members to the public - Multiple lifting chains out of date by 5 years - Poor fencing deliniation/separation of the works and the public - Extuinguishers out by 12 months on plant being operated on site

18.01.2022 Our own Dr Gerry Ayres, Health and Safety Manager for the VIC/TAS Branch explains that gendered violence is a workplace hazard like any other, and should be controlled the same. Workplace health and safety legislation around the country requires an employer to provide a work environment that is without risk to health and safety. We are calling on the Federal Government to recognise every worker’s right to be free from all forms of violence and harassment at work.... Please sign and share the petition: https://www.megaphone.org.au//ratify-ilo-c190-violence-and

17.01.2022 Throughout the 16 Days of Activism, we will be posting videos from our Health and Safety Team speaking about violence and harassment as a health and safety issue. See Nigel Davies, National Assistant Secretary speak. Sign the petition to help this issue become law in Australia.

16.01.2022 Please join us to remember the 35 West Gate workers we lost 50 years ago.

15.01.2022 Happy NAIDOC Week! NAIDOC Week celebrations will be held from 8-15 November 2020

15.01.2022 Radio station SEN dedicated an entire day to the construction industry, to say thanks for everyone's efforts throughout a very tough year. It was well deserved recognition for the great job you've all done to keep our industry going.

15.01.2022 McConell Dowell/Decmill joint venture representatives threatened workers who had genuine concerns about their health and safety, calling it "illegal industrial action" and threatening officials with the ABCC - after then proceding to call them.. These stand over tactics and threats are a ploy to stop workers/unions having a voice and say in the workplace. Workers out at the Mordialac Bypass and CFMEU officials stood firm and had safety issue after, safety issue rectified out ...on the Government funded project. - Exposing the work force to silica dust with no monitoring, proper PPE or dust suppression controls in place - SDS (Safety Data Sheet) for recycled concrete and glass - used on haulroads and walkways was not available on request, once received almost three hours later, workers had not been given the information around controls as it was carcinogenic when inhaled - Project heat policy was not being adhered to, having workers walk over a kilometer to water and toliet facilities - Undercover walkway built without an engineered design - One portable toliet out on site - no soap and sanitizer as per project Covid management plan #whatyoudontseeonthefancyads

15.01.2022 All workers have the right to be free from all forms of violence and harassment at home and at work. We invite you to add a frame to your profile photo from today to December 10, to show your support during our 16 days of activism campaign. 15.01.2022 No consultation with public or the council from CPB, in regards to the bridge being demolished over a LIVE/OPEN PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE AND HIGHWAY. 12.01.2022 Today marks 50 long and sorrowful years since Australia's worst industrial fatality. The collapse of the West Gate Bridge on October 15, 1970 took the lives of 35 workers, and seriously injured many more. The trauma it caused continues to ripple through families and to haunt the survivors and the workmates who were made to collect the bodies of their friends.... John Setka: "Today we pay our respects to the 35 workers who lost their lives and those who have been impacted by the tragedy forever, and remember why it is so important to continue to fight every day for the safety and lives of our members, to ensure they get home to their families This morning at 11.50am, building sites across our city will pause to pay tribute to those we lost as a result of builders' and engineers' negligence. A special service, by the West Gate Memorial Committee and the Victorian Trades Hall Council, will also be live-streamed. We hope that you will join us in honouring the lives of those that we lost. #SafetyIsUnionBusiness #GoneButNeverForgotten #TheyBuiltThisCity

10.01.2022 AFTER CFMEU intervention out at Yarra trams and Fulton Hogan tram Occupation - Officials followed up after the project agreed to stop and rectify issues after Police were called, and hindering and obstructing officials all failed, the project finally complied with their duty of care - All issues identified were rectified before works commenced again. #standupspeakoutcomehome

04.01.2022 At a job in South Melbourne, there’s just one toilet for 50 blokes on-site. There’s a raft of other issues there too: No COVID plan. No Peggy. Might not even be toilet paper. It’s so bad there that even WorkSafe has been slapping them with notices. ... That and plenty more on this week’s edition of The Concrete Gang. Hear it here: https://audio.3cr.org.au//202010110930_the-concrete-gang_6
