17.01.2022 MEET THE VOLUNTEER Name: Phillip Haley Age: 37 Brigade: Salisbury - Brigade Lieutenant ... Occupation: National Electronic Security Manager How long have you been a CFS volunteer? Almost 20 years What made you want to become a CFS volunteer? At first I joined as a mate was a member and it sure beat sitting in a car waiting for him to get back from a call, but it didnt take long to feel a purpose by helping people at the worse time in their life and making a difference. What is your favourite part about being a CFS volunteer? Like most others, Im a big kid at heart, so who can go past going priority 1? The Adrenalin pumping on the way to a call is a great thrill. Seeing the smiles on kids face when we go past in our nice truck with lights and sirens, and most of all, being able to help people in their time of need. Its a great feeling to know when their life is not going to plan, we can be there to assist them. What has been your most rewarding moment so far? Most rewarding? Mm I cant think of 1 single moment that stands out as the most rewarding, however the most rewarding in general is the thanks and appreciation from the general community after doing what we do best. What was the most significant moment you have had while volunteering? Significant moment, being appointed as an officer would be up there. My time in the CFS has encouraged me to grow as a leader, changing my personality and approach to life for the better. When I was elected as an officer, it was a great feeling knowing members believed in me to lead them as part of the leadership group. Thank you Phillip for your continued commitment to the CFS and to your community And thank you for sharing your experience as a CFS volunteer. 08.01.2022 Today marks the 5th anniversary of the Pinery bushfire. 2015 Pinery bushfire was a catastrophic bushfire that burned from 25 November to 2 December 2015, and primarily affected the Lower Mid North and west Barossa Valley regions immediately north of Gawler in South Australia. At least 86,000 hectares (210,000 acres) of scrub and farmland in the council areas of Light, Wakefield, Clare and Gilbert Valleys, and Mallala were burned during its duration. On 25 November, during the... major run of the Pinery fire, two fatalities occurred; Janet Hughes, 56, perished while fleeing in a vehicle outside Hamley Bridge; Allan Tiller, 69, perished while fighting the fire on a neighbour's property in Pinery itself. A further 90 people were hospitalized as a result of the fire, with five of the victims suffering critical injuries. The Pinery fire destroyed or rendered uninhabitable 91 houses, and completely destroyed 388 non-residential structures, 93 pieces of farm machinery and 98 other vehicles. Today we take the time to remember the 2 lives lost and their families, along with the many others who were greatly effected by the Pinery Fire. #SouthAustraliaBushfires #Pinery #PineryBushfire #CountryFireService #CFS #SACFS #CFSFoundation #CFSVolunteers #Brave #Incredible #Courageous #ThankYou
