23.01.2022 Emma Riggs in the South East brought this all together. Thanks to all that were involved and donated. This is how is happened. Nick Davis, one of the musicians who performed on the day asked if he could play a gig to raise money for the bushfires. We apporoached The Caledonian Inn if he could perform and they were more than supportive. From there a few of the other musicians were asked if they wanted to be apart of the evening and thats were it all began. Buckets were placed around the town in various businesses and were collected. Thanks to everyone for the donations, the Caledonian Inn for the venue and the staff for helping promote the event, Derek Hooper who donated a keg of local Cape Ale and of course Shaun Brown, Nick Davis, Bojack from the B-sharps and Hattie Oates for an amazing night of music.

17.01.2022 Update for Ravine Fire on Kangaroo Island : Issued for RAVINE regarding the RAVINE fire. The Ravine Fire on Kangaroo Island has this morning been declared cont...ained after more than three weeks of active firefighting by hundreds of firefighters, many of whom assisted with fighting the Duncan and Menzies fires that started 10 days prior. This means that the forward rate of spread has been halted and no flare ups have occurred outside of the fire edge for a number of days. Crews have worked tirelessly to ensure that the fire edge has been blacked out and secured. The large contingent of firefighters and incident management personnel supported by many other agencies, private industry and local community members will still be operating in force on Kangaroo Island to ensure the fire stays contained leading into gusty, windier weather in the coming days. Wednesday and Thursday this week are days of increased fire weather with north-westerly winds forecast early Wednesday morning before changing to westerly winds in the afternoon. Associated with these conditions is the potential for breakouts to occur to the south and east of the fire edge. We are advising the community that whilst there is no immediate threat from this fire and the fire is contained, there is the potential for the situation to change. There are still active areas of burning vegetation, trees, tree roots and stumps and we will still see smoke coming from this fireground in the days and potential weeks to come. The community is asked to report any areas where smoke or flames are seen and not being attended to by fire service personnel by dialling triple 000. Arduous firefighting crews are working to protect unburnt remnant pockets of native vegetation by running out extensive lengths of hose and using hand tools. Aircraft will be continuing to operate on the Island in days to come should an outbreak occur. Falling and burning trees, underground roots, damaged or blocked roads, fallen power lines, smoke, ash and possible asbestos contamination is still a risk and present new hazards in an ever changing landscape. CFS ground observers will continue checking on control lines and using thermal imaging cameras to identify hot spots. Much work is being conducted clearing roads to make areas safe for traffic. Roads continued to be monitored and assessed for changes to the closure to allow further access to residents and tourist on the island. Please ensure you visit www.traffic.sa.gov.au for the latest updates. Anyone travelling on fire impacted roads need to be aware that road blocks are in place for a reason, please do not drive around them. Please report any unsafe driving to SA Police on 131444 or download the Traffic Watch App What to do For updates visit the CFS website (https://www.cfs.sa.gov.au/) or phone the Bushfire Information Hotline on 1800 362 361.

04.01.2022 The CFS would like to pay tribute to our volunteers who support other emergency response agencies, in providing road crash rescue services across the state. Wit...h 65 per cent of fatalities in South Australia occurring on regional and country roads, our CFS volunteers are often amongst the first on the scene, providing critical first aid and care, and making the scenes safe for other road users, until other agencies arrive. In the past decade, the CFS has averaged over 2,000 call outs to road accidents per year. We have 65 Road Crash Rescue brigades, with volunteers who undertake specific training to prepare and respond to a rescue. These brigades are located along major roads and areas of frequent road accident activity, with the volunteers needing to undertake a specific course and three-yearly refreshers, to ensure they have the skills and expertise to appropriately and safely respond to a variety of differing, and often difficult, circumstances. On top of these brigades, all CFS volunteers are trained as a part of their base firefighting capability, to ensure we can support agencies such as the SES, SA Police and SA Ambulance Service, to safely do their jobs. If you would like to know how to thank these incredible volunteer first responders, its simple- drive safely, slow down, and abide by the road rules. #ColouryourCommunityRed #SAVolunteer #NVW2020 #NationalVolunteerWeek #thankyoufiries #morethanabushfireservice
