24.01.2022 ELDERLY RESIDENTS BEWARE Sutherland Shire Police are warning all residents, in particular people who are living alone, to be suspicious of door to door workers ...who are asking to lop trees, clean roofs and driveways. On 4th of December 2018 an elderly Loftus resident was approached by an unknown male asking to clean the driveway. At the completion of the job, the unknown workman drove the person to the bank where $6000 was withdrawn and handed over. Police attended and spoke to the victim, unfortunately they could not provide any details of the workman or the name of the company which could have assisted police in tracking them down. If you know of a friend or an elderly relative who lives alone and you believe they may be vulnerable to these unscrupulous work methods here are few tips on how to prevent them from becoming a victim: Never open the door and always talk to them through a locked security screen door. Never let the person know that you are alone Never agree for work to commence on the spot Always ask for ID and the company they work for Take their details and inform you will call them back If you are uncertain call police for assistance and advice Call a trusted family member or neighbour You can also report any information or suspicious activity to: https://twitter.com/scamwatch_gov.

07.01.2022 ATO UPDATE Incorrectly claimed rental deductions, specifically ones relating to holiday homes, are being targeted for audit by the ATO. The recent media release also points towards some other significant factors that may attribute the property as being not genuinely "available for rent".
