21.01.2022 Preventing Fears - Behaviours The first nine weeks of a kittens life are essential to combat irreversible fears and aggression: just expose your kitten to as many stimuli as possible. The Genetics and the natural ability to deal with stressful situations to take and overcome fears are also linked to race, brain chemistry and early learning during the period of socialization. Sudden noises such as thunder, alarms or fireworks they can cause fear. People can also scare the cat... when they scream, fall or run, especially if the animal is used to hearing them speak softly and or move peacefully. Fears often intensify over time mainly because the cat learns with each experience. Learning, in fact, is a change in behaviour that occurs as a result of experience. The learned behaviors are less rigid than the innate ones: the latter, in fact, are objects that are mentally wired and can be performed without any previous experience. During this small period of time it is very important that we focus on exposing our kitten to the following: Habituation & Learning, Sensitization, Socialization, Sounds, Smells, Touch, Hearing, Sight and Taste. 11.01.2022 Preventing Fear and Behaviours | Habituation & Learning Habituation is one of the most common forms of learning and one of its functions is to teach animals what not to fear. In fact, to all cats and dogs, and not only, but it is also common to fear objects and subjects like animals and humans that have not been categorised as "friends". This fear is critical to their survival. It is, therefore, a gradual loss of reactivity to a stimulus following repeated exposure to it. In... this type of learning, animals decrease the frequency of behaviour and in response to a repeated stimulus. This occurs when such behaviour does not involve any kind of reward benefit. In nature, animals are constantly bombarded with stimuli. A myriad of sounds, smells, visions and tactile sensations stimulate their nervous systems. And, therefore, we need to know which stimuli they should ignore and which ones should elicit a fear response. And all this is expressed through the process of housing. The response decreases with repeated exposure to the stimulus over time and in the absence of any adverse or pleasant experience. Preventing Fear and Behaviours | Raising Awareness Awareness is the opposite of habituation. In sensitization, an animal learns to react more often or more strongly to a repeated stimulus. For example, exposure to excessive sounds causes a strong response in the cat that appears agitated and tries to escape from the sources of the noise. Thereafter, the cat responds in the same way to even softer sounds. This means that he became sensitized to the noises. Indeed, sensitization produces a stronger response than the original. Exposing a cat repeatedly to a dog that chases it leads the cat to flee or hide from the sight of its historical "enemy", even when the dog shows a friendly behaviour towards the feline. 06.01.2022 How much do cats sleep? We dont know if cats dream, but it is easy to see that they spend many hours sleeping. As a rule, a healthy adult cat sleeps about 16 hours a day.
