24.01.2022 This orphaned Joey melted our hearts last week. Veterinary nurse Chantelle placed him in a heated makeshift pouch and he took the bottle immediately he was so hungry. He is now being cared for by one of our lovely clients who is a registered wildlife carer and will hopefully be retuned to the wild when he is big enough.

24.01.2022 COVID-19 UPDATE FROM CHALLENGER VETERINARY HOSPITAL We would like to reassure you that we are doing everything we can to ensure the health and welfare of all pets and pet parents during this time. We are implementing measures to ensure we remain open so we can continue treating your pets. On Monday we divided our staff into two separate teams so that if one team has to go into isolation the other will be able to continue working, to keep the hospital operational. ... As a licensed and accredited veterinary hospital we already have numerous and robust hygiene policies in place. Further to this, and in light of a confirmed case of Coronovirus in a Kwinana resident yesterday, we have added some additional precautionary measures. These additional measures are: On entering the hospital we are asking clients to use the bathroom in reception to thoroughly wash their hands with soap and water for a minimum of 20 seconds then use the paper towel to dry them. There will be hand sanitiser on the reception counter for you to use after your appointment. We are asking that only one pet parent enter the consulting room together with your pet. We suggest that other family members wait at home or outside our clinic. Our vets will greet you without a handshake and we are more likely at this time to take your pet into our treatment area to carry out an examination. When making your appointment please let us know if you are feeling unwell, or if you have been in contact with someone who is unwell, or if you are self-isolating. We will then arrange for our staff to meet you at your car. Please phone us when you are in the parking lot, so we know you have arrived. We will take your pet into the hospital and continue the consultation over the phone. The good news is experts say theres still no evidence you can catch coronavirus from your pet. We are here to help in any way we can to get us all safely through this time and are always happy to give advice over the phone. Photo credit: George Harris Science Photo Library.

23.01.2022 COVID -19 UPDATE: PET ONLY CONSULTS As the COVID-19 situation evolves Challenger Veterinary Hospital is making some changes to the way we operate with the aim of delivering the best possible care to our patients and clients whilst also ensuring the safety and welfare of our staff and the well-being of our community. Our opening hours remain the same and we will be open 7 days a week. We are focusing on maintaining as much normality as possible whilst minimising the risk of t...ransmission of any illness. These protocols may evolve over time, but we will begin by doing the following: Changes to the way we perform consultations: In order to minimise the risk of transmission, please remain in the carpark and phone us on 9419 4133 when you arrive. Our staff will then collect your pet from the carpark, bring them into the hospital and the consultation will be performed over the phone with the veterinarian. You will only be able to enter the reception area in an emergency situation or if you feel our staff safety will be at risk from your pet if you are not present or if you feel that your pet will be extremely stressed if you are not present. Exceptions will be made for end-of-life decisions, provided the people attending are feeling well and have not had known contact with someone with COVID-19 or have travelled overseas recently. If your pet requires repeat medications, food and other items please call ahead to arrange this. When you arrive at the clinic please call us and we can bring them out to you. Wherever possible, please pay for these items ahead of time over the phone. Changes to our payment protocols: Please be aware that we are no longer accepting cash payments of accounts. We encourage card payments. Changes to our visiting protocols: For the time being, we are not allowing families to visit pets in hospital. We will happily send you photos. Due to the ongoing problem of pet overpopulation, these healthy pets are being euthanised because there are not enough homes available. There are many reasons why pet owners should desex their pets. As well as helping to stop pet overpopulation, the following are some of the other benefits associated with desexing cats and dogs. Health Reduced risk of getting cancer or other diseases of the reproductive organs, such as testicular cancer, prostate cancer/disorders in males, and cystic ovaries, ovarian tumors, acute uterine infections and breast cancer in females, and also other diseases like mammary cancer, perianal tumors and perianal hernias. Females can suffer from physical and nutritional exhaustion if continually breeding. Pets generally live longer and healthier lives. Behavioural Pets are less prone to wander, fight, and are less likely to get lost or injured. Reduces territorial behaviour such as spraying indoors. Less likely to suffer from anti-social behaviors. They become more affectionate and become better companions. Eliminates heat cycles in female cats and their efforts to get outside in search for a mate. Cost Reduces the cost to the community of having to care for unwanted puppies and kittens in pounds and shelters. No additional food or vet bills for the offspring. No need to find homes for unwanted or unexpected litters of puppies or kittens. Save money from expensive surgeries from car accidents or fights, which are less likely to occur if your pet doesnt roam around. Dumping puppies and kittens is an ethical cost, as well as being illegal and inhumane. Please call us on 9419 4133 to make a booking.
