25.01.2022 The average balance of residential home loan was $264,000 as at 30/9/17 For the same type but interest only, the figure jumps to $347,000 (Source Banking Royal Commission paper released yesterday). Understanding where you sit on this scale is important. It should help you understand how important or otherwise interest rate movements are. Don't panic if you owe more than this. There are a whole heap of factors to consider. Income, Age, working life, income security, childrens ...age etc. With the market widely expecting rate rises around the world it is worth considering how manageable your current debt levels are. There will be a lot of press about mortgage stress when rates begin to rise & the media will make it sound like Armageddon. If in doubt get some advice.

15.01.2022 1 in 4 people aged 20 will miss work for a year due to illness or injury. How would you survive financially? Car loan, mortgage, rent .... could you cover it all? Sickness allowance takes months for Centrelink to assess and is only about $600 a fortnight for singles, or $500 a fortnight if partnered. However those amounts drop if your partner is working or if you have savings.

15.01.2022 Lost phones/NBN & email services today. I chased an urgent fix that the national hotline was suggesting would take over a week. Got onto a local who responded immediately and got us back online. I was all set to not only pay for the service but buy him a bottle of his favorite as an extra thank-you. His response "It's o.k, you look after my mum & dad so I'll look after you"... I love being part of this community.

12.01.2022 "The S&P/ASX 200 index closed higher today rising 1.0% to 5429.6 which is a great start to the week. Confidence was restored in the market after the weak US job figures on Friday has reduced the possibility of a rate hike this month." An example of some of the rubbish 'experts' put out because they are paid to comment. A strong US Jobs number would be an indication of a thriving economy. A thriving economy is evidence of a growing one. If the US raises rates it's a sign that times are indeed good. The raising of rates would temper the growth rate. The growth is what investors want. Instead of focusing on the short term noise - longer term focus is where the wealth is created.

10.01.2022 So much for listening to the experts The US share market was up 44% since Donald Trump was elected. You may remember many economists suggesting the sky would fall on our heads if he won. Anyway, the 44% rise was up until late last week. That meteoric rise hardly made the news. I will bet most werent aware. Instead, the focus has been on Bitcoin. However a correction of 4.8% down brings front page news and is first story on the nightly news. Trillions wiped off global ...stock markets In the meantime Bitcoin plummeted 65% but we havent heard much about that. Trying to make sense of the news is like trying to take a sip from a fire-hose. Stay Calm and remember the news gets ratings the more shocking it is. So its in their best interests to dramatise everything and make you panic. Oh and that calamitous drop the news is talking about only took the share market back to where it was in early December 2017. This looks like classic profit-taking by speculators. If anything, they want you to panic and drive the market lower so they can get back in at the cheaper prices!

03.01.2022 Should I panic? With a headline like "Coronavirus, oil collapse erase $5 trillion from U.S. stocks" you'd be forgiven for thinking you should. However the S&P500 isn't even at it's 12 month low! In fact it's only retreated to where it was in April 2019. The ASX200 is back to Jan 2019.... Coronavirus or Covid-19 has simply been a trigger for a market correction that some were saying was overdue. The supply side shocks will be real, with countries locking down and international travel and trade taking a hit. These shocks will only be temporary. Professionals in whatever field and locals where events occur are always bemused and even annoyed at the media who sensationalise everything! Either markets overshoot on the way up - causing a bubble or they overshoot on the way down creating a buying opportunity. Inevitably the market corrects afterwards. The single toughest thing for traders though is picking the peak (when to sell) and the trough (when to buy), most experienced traders get this wrong. It's why Investors steadily accumulate when the market is volatile and sit back at other times. The world will keep turning, toilet paper will return the supermarket shelves, the human race will live on and they will continue to consume goods and services, ergo the markets will rebound. We've survived far greater crises.

02.01.2022 "We love that you run your business like a family and we love that we feel part of it" One of the best responses from a client this festive season after recieving our annual Christmas letter.
