25.01.2022 Today we release our Arts and Culture Economic Recovery Plan, which details a short-term response and some longer term strategic initiatives. We will continue to highlight key issues from within this document over the coming months. https://www.cacwa.org.au/documents/item/1033
25.01.2022 Last night the Western Australian Parliament progressed the Arts and Culture Trust Bill 2020 which replaces the Perth Theatre Trust Act 1979 to its third reading. This addresses the need for reform of the statutory authority and introduces a new body to manage the States cultural assets. We welcome this as a step towards addressing current limitations in the management of arts and cultural assets controlled by the State. It provides a framework for activating a broader ran...ge of spaces as arts and culture venues and also brings regional infrastructure into view. The discussion of the Bill included a comprehensive review of arts and culture across the State in one of the most significant discussions held about the sector in Parliament in years and it was fantastic to hear how many Members were personally engaged with arts and culture and understood the important contribution made by artists in our society. This discussion sets the stage for a constructive conversation about how we can expand access to cultural activity within our communities and enhance Western Australias creative industries to grow jobs and innovation. 18.01.2022 Great to see the first mention of arts and culture in Labor's election promises #markmcgowan. 18.01.2022 Today we are delighted to announce a new membership category for independent artists. While the past six-months have seen the arts and culture sector particularly hard hit by the global pandemic, as a diverse sector we have come together to articulate the impacts and challenges specific to us. Independent artists have made their collective voices heard louder and more clearly than ever before. It has also made clear that arts advocacy must be artist focused and artist led.... Over the past six-months the Chamber have sought greater engagement with the independent arts sector on the specific challenges and needs of this diverse group. These conversations have been a key catalyst for developing this new membership category at an accessible price point for independent artists, to encourage greater representation of artists within our membership. Artists create the value we so often talk about our sector bringing to society and they must be a central contributor and part of our advocacy to government and the wider community. Our new $55 membership special for independent artists will ensure the needs of independent artists are understood and articulated as part of the Chambers advocacy priorities.
