24.01.2022 Friday Top Tip Training Tip Shoulder to overhead movements Something we see a lot of is the heels coming off the ground when we’re going into our dip. It can be a mobility issue, it can feel easier, it can be just laziness. ... But, what it can do is tip our chest forward, which then can push the bar forward, making the movement a lot harder than it needs to be. Next time, try take those feet a little wider than normal. This will help keep the heels down, which keeps the chest up, making it easier. It all starts from the feet! Any questions give me a shout or come say hi at the gym. Coach Chris #fridaytoptip

24.01.2022 Friday Top Tip Training Tip Strict Dip This week we look at the strict dip. Before we even consider kipping we must first master the dip ... 1. Set the rings up middle finger to elbow distance apart. 2. Start above the rings in the ring support position maintaining the hollow body position. 3. Keeping the rings close to the body break at the elbow and dip down to the bottom until the rings touch the bicep. Ensure the rings stay close to the body. Main focus here is the dip is initiated with the arms elbows go back and the body lowers, not by hinging the hips. 4. From here press out back into the starting position. 18.01.2022 Friday Top Tip Training Tip Wall balls, everyone’s favourite. Today we will look at three tips that will make the movement more efficient and save quick fatigue. ... 1. Grip on the ball. We see a lot of people holding the ball tightly on the side, this is going to fatigue the chest and shoulders pretty quick. Instead try holding the ball with the hands relaxed underneath and at eye level. This will relax the chest and arms and make for more time with the ball in your hands rather then on the floor. 2. BREATHING! Seeing wall balls programmed, panicking and then breathing uncontrollably through out the movement is a quick way to burn out. Stay in the zone and control your breathing don’t panic. I personally like to breath in on the way down and out on the way up. This will create a smooth rhythm and keep you going for longer. 3. The recovery phase. Once the ball is thrown what do you do with your hands? Holding them up in the sky, or swinging them around in a circle before the catch is a quick way to tire out. Once the ball is released try bringing the hands relaxed back to the chest before catching the ball and going again. This will allow the arms to go for longer. The elbows on the ribs 2. Knuckles on the chin Yes, this is going to make it a bit harder but it will challenge the midline more and in turn get better results. Let me know how it goes! 14.01.2022 Friday Tp Tip Kipping toes to bar Intent: Stringint T2B together ... As you know my friends, toes to bar (T2B) are hard enough to complete already so lets not make them harder by sending your body into all directions... This week we’re sharing a few top tips on how to get those T2B as smooth as butter and to eliminate the ‘double swing‘ HOW TO: 1. T2B is an abdominal movement not a shoulder rotation. Open and close the abs. 2. Keep a neutral head looking forwards, not at the bar. 3. Slight push down on the bar when bringing the legs up. Slight pull back on the bar into the arch/super man position. 4. If you can’t get the toes to the bar start with smooth kipping leg raises, gradually bring the legs higher as these improve. 07.01.2022 REST DAY // A part of the magic of functional fitness is the element of high intensity and breaking a sweat, right? That being said, one thing we have to keep in mind is that we can’t sustain that high intensity every single day; otherwise, our body ends up breaking down. ... Rest days give the body time to recover, reduce the risk of injury and muscle fatigue AND support a healthy sleep (the list goes on) ... So this begs the question, how often are you taking a rest day with your training? Not enough?
